Phone one (samsung a51) updated to 13 - VVM no longer alerts of new messages. Samsung said it is a VW issue.
Phone two (samsung S20 FE) updated four weeks later - same issue, so clearly not a phone issue.
Have been in touch with VW support - they have no resolution, have provided zero updates, zero follow up
I can't be the only one experiencing this.
