I have the majority of my apps (google maps, facebook, angry birds, yelp etc) set to automatically update through the android market, but I recently noticed that they are not being updated. I was scrolling through the market looking for a new app when I noticed a bunch (like 10+) of the apps I currently have installed said, "Update" next to them. Odd! Also, these same apps do not show up at the top of the list (where the apps that have available updates are listed) under the "My Apps" tap in the market. I would love any suggestions on how to fix this!

You could try clearing your market data. From your homescreen, press menu>settings>applications>manage applications, press the "all" tab at the top, scroll down to market, then press clear data. You may have to recheck the automatic updates for each app in the market, but hopefully it helps. Also, if permissions change for an app, you have to manually update them.

That is correct, if the app has changed their permissions, then it will not automatically update the app, you have to agree with the new permissions before the update can be applied.
Personally, I uncheck all of my apps so they do not automatically update. I want to know when the updates are there, what the updates are fixing, and let them get applied through other people first before I update mine.
