Battery Saver Apps---Suggestions Welcomed!

I've taken the plunge and purchased a new Samsung GNex. I want to start out right and monitor my battery usage on this new phone. My question for the community: What is the best battery saver/task killer app in the Market that won't crap my phone out and put me back into a tailspin like with my Samsung CRAPinate; I mean Fascinate! (tee hee!) I've looked at the Easy Battery Saver+Task Killer, Battery Monitor Widget Pro and the Battery Dr Saver plus task killer. I'm reeling over the unending list of claimed "this app saved my life" reviews.

So, has anyone had good luck or bad luck with these types of applications?

my advice? forget them all. quit killing apps. there's no real need for battery monitors, savers, etc, etc. the best thing you can do is leave it on 3g unless you really need 4g (streaming or downloading large files). also use wifi whenever you are in a good wifi network. set your display to timeout after 15-30 seconds. set the brightness to about 40%. have your email pull every 30 minutes or an hour (unless you have to have emails pushed constantly for work or something). if you set up preferences properly and have a pretty good signal, then the battery will last as long as it's going to last.

i let all apps update automatically. i have gps enabled. i don't use any task killer. then only real type of battery saving app/function i use is timeriffic. it will automatically turn on my wifi when i get to my office or my home, and it automatically puts my device into airplane mode from 1 am to 5 am. i get 3+hours of actual use from one charge, and another 20+ hours of idle/standby time.....so i easily get through the day on a full charge, without the use of juice defender, task killer, battery saver, etc, etc. (i play words with friends, stream music with spotify, and a facebook often, which are my 3 battery culprits, but still get a full day on one charge).

Those are great suggestions. Most of which I currently do. The only ones I cannot control are my emails. My Yahoo and Gmail do not allow me to manually set the sync option to 30 minutes to an hour. These apps are apparently coded to auto push emails. I can control my corporate email to sync at a designated time, but that's too important to set it to sync every 30 minutes to an hour. I need my corporate mail as soon as it hits the server since I'm not always in front of my laptop to read emails. Can the auto push be overriden in the Gmail and Yahoo accounts?

i'm not familiar with those apps, but you can set your yahoo and gmail accounts up in your normal email app (without using the apps at all) and possibly set those times manually? however, i believe if you have 3 email accounts set up in the email app, you can only change the settings for all 3 accounts......so if you need your work email to be pushed constantly, then it would be the same for the yahoo and gmail, so it would kind of defeat the purpose.

Gmail uses PUSH technology, so it doesn't use any more radio than the phone normally would. Do you use the Yahoo Mail app or use the stock email app on the Nexus? If you use the stock app, in the settings for your account, there is a place to set the amount of time from Never to every hour. To get there, go to Menu->Settings->Account(email name) Inbox check frequency.  If you use the Yahoo mail app, then you will need to look through the settings to see where to change the check for new messages frequency.

What do you use for your Corporate Email? Does your company use Microsoft Exchange or another email system?

If the email is important, you want to leave the PUSH enabled (unless you get tons of spam). That way you only use the radio for email when an email actually comes in. My company uses Exchange, and the app that we use is Touchdown, set for PUSH. Sometimes I get 10 emails in an hour, and sometimes I get no emails in 10 hours.

Another way I save on battery, is that I have a power supply at home, at my desk at work, and in my car. That way, I always have power available to me (unless I am in meetings or in my wifes car) I never run out of battery power

  • Use a Static wallpaper instead of Live;
  • Watch your widgets and how often they pull data...
  • Juice Defender App Helps..
  • Use Wifi over 4G whenever possible.
  • Turn down the brightness on that beautiful screen Smiley Happy

That's only when searching, if you are connected to wifi already it doesn't use the battery as much. You leave wifi off when you are not in a wifi hotspot and turn it on when you know you're in one.
