Battery won't charge after update! (S4)

I was skeptical about the new update but since the annoying notification wouldn't go away, I decided to go ahead and do it. Literally, minutes after it was finished, I plugged in my phone and it will not charge at all. Like, the little lightning bolt won't even pop up. I have tried several different chargers and outlets. My phone was sitting beside me the entire time, there was no trauma to it whatsoever. I am SO mad. I just got this phone a few days ago. My brother says I should reset it to factory and see if that works?

Help!

Have you documented a SINGLE CASE of making someone hard reset their phone that has battery or 4G connectivity issues directly related to the KitKat 4.4.2 update and that actually solves the problem? I'm betting NO. Because that is not a solution to a problem clearly caused by the software update. Using the same software on seemingly perfectly good hardware will not accomplish anything. NEXT? Also we didn't buy our phone from the manufacturer, we bought them from Verizon. You're passing the buck. How about some real support? Document the cases of people complaining that this update has severely crippled their phones which were perfectly fine before, and come up with actual ideas or solutions.

Don't hope for much from Verizon wireless. They won't do anything but maybe throw you a free phone case. Verizon blames these type of problems on Samsung & Google. I pay Verizon. Verizon get my money. I get the phone from Verizon. It's Verizon's fault/problem to fix or loose customers. We should have the ability to NOT have to download a system update. I bought the phone. It's mine. I should have the right to download an update or not. I used to be an EXTREMELY LOYAL Verizon wireless customer. NOT ANYMORE.

I want to exhaust all other approaches before resorting to a hard reset since that requires resetting my multiple email accounts, downloading apps for corporate email (which I had to pay for a second time when I changed phones), and downloading and resetting all other apps. Quite a nuisance that I should NOT have to go through as the result of an update of the OS. (The kind of nuisance that makes one consider changing phone OS's and providers.)

Since that's your (VZW's) first suggestion and I feel I've done a good job searching VZW and other forums about this problem, I guess I'm stuck doing the hard reset. I just need to pick a day this weekend when I won't need the phone and have nothing else to do for several hours. Good thing I'm closing on the end of my 2-year lifecycle and can drop the phone and VZW if this turns out to take as much time as I'm anticipating. I'll post the results here. (If it goes badly, this won't be the only place the story gets told.)

I can tell you from personal experience with this just last week that a factory reset DID NOT WORK. I also was told by the Verizon rep (who was extremely helpful and nice) to do the following, which had me running all over  town last Sunday:

-go to the Samsung Experience at Best Buy and have them reflash the update. Well, that would have been fine if the tech could have gotten my phone to connect to his computer, but since charging/connecting via USB was not working at all, it could not be reflashed.

-get a new battery - luckily, the salesperson let me try the battery before buying it - of course, it did not solve the problem.

I was able to finally get a replacement overnighted to me on Monday. Do you think I'm going to install the KitKat update even though it keeps popping up each day? HECK NO!!!!!

I will keep delaying it until these bugs are fixed.

Very, very, very dissatisfied customer.

I kept delaying the 4.3 JB update for about two months. One day my phone's battery died.  I plugged it in to recharge and turned it on and the download was in progress.  I had no problems with the update, which was suprising as so many have, so now I am getting the KK update noticification daily now and am delaying that update as long as possible. Maybe I will luck out again when it's forced to the phone.

I appreciate that Sheritah. My replacement is working GREAT, but like I said, I have not and will not install the KitKat update because I fear I will be right back to where I was before. I will keep delaying the update until I hear that a patch has been released for all of the problems I, and lots of other people, have experienced.

I switched from iPhone to Galaxy, and this is the first time Iโ€™ve ever had any issues, but the issues were drastic enough to make me want to switch back to iPhone. I have to say that itโ€™s very disappointing, and I hope itโ€™s resolved soon. I realize it is not your fault, but Samsung really needs to turn this around quickly.

Same issues here, but it is the .5 amp charger that won't charge.  2.1 amp charger works and I suspect it is because the phone is eating up so much battery it can't keep up at .5.  I have done Factory Data Reset and it hasn't helped.  I get 4 hours of battery life on phone among other issues.  Verizon, please fix!

danaverizon,

You can't turn off your phone, otherwise it will update automatically I believe. Mine keeps telling me I have an update to install, but I have the option of scheduling it for later. It's annoying to keep having to do this each day, but I won't install the update until I hear that a patch has been released that resolves the issues.

You're probably going to need to contact Verizon tech support via phone - I was transferred to a higher level tech, who had me run through a bunch of steps which ultimately led to a phone replacement since mine was unuseable. Of course, this doesn't fix the underlying problem - I know that if I install the update, I'll have the same issues on the replacement.

Sorry for all of your grief. You are not alone!

I do want to say thank you  to the Verizon staff who monitor these boards. Dealing with a bunch of irate users is not fun, and you get the brunt of our dissatisfaction. I think most of us on here realize it is not your fault, and I personally appreciate having a place to vent. My hope is that the staff who monitor the boards will take all of this "feedback" back to who needs to hear it so we can get this resolved.

i am overwhelmed reading the thread and can't figure out what to do about this.  can someone please summarize?  a while back, but all of the sudden my Samsung phone stopped charging at regular speed with any and all chargers.  phone doesn't recognize any of them as original yet it is only the original charger that i use (husband having same issues)  both are S4....  gather it is something to do with the operating system update but i am rather clueless about technology!  thought it was just me until i searched and found all of these issues going back to November!  HELP!!!
