Can I transfer a number for free Note 9?

I'm an existing customer.  A new line is required to get a second Note 9 for free.  I don't need the extra line.  Can I create the new line and transfer my existing number to it and  then cancel the old line and still qualify for a free Note 9?

You are a valued customer and I want to ensure that the BOGO promotion is clearly explained, ThisMe. The short answer to your question is no. Allow me to explain why.

The Note 9 BOGO promotion credit is applied to the account over 24 months. The promotion credits end when the balance is paid or the line terminated/transferred.

This means that you must keep two lines active for 24 months, and each line must have a device payment agreement for the new Note 9 devices. While you will have two device payment agreements (one for each line) you will be credited the monthly payment for the new line of service, and the credit will continue for 24 months making one of the phones free over the 24 months of the agreement.

Does this information answer your question clearly?

I've contacted Verizon support and two told me yes and two told me no.  I just can't get a straight answer.

I'll explain in more detail.  I have 2 existing Verizon lines on a month to month basis.  I'm upgrading one line and buying a new line to get the free Note 9.  Can I transfer the number on the old line to the new one and in effect close that old line and still qualify for the free Note 9?

No, Verizon doesn't offer a way to transfer a phone number from an old line on an account to a new line on the account.

You could activate a new line with a new number to get the free Note 9 but the new one would have to remain active in the account for the monthly credits. You could still use the free phone with your old number by activating the Note 9's SIM card on the old line instead of with the new number though you'd have 3 active lines and that may not be very cost effective

We understand that you are looking to get the latest offer and deal for the Note 9. As mentioned by JRH4054 you would not be able to transfer the line to an old number. The promotion requires an added line to the account and would not have the option to transfer. This would void the offer and charge the regular rate for the device monthly.

Plain old common sense should tell you that you can't do this.  The whole idea of the BOGO promotion is to sell another line.

sure, as long as you're paying for the 2nd account.
