Can I use Fascinate as WiFi only?

I think I've read this question before, but here goes.  After my contract runs out, can I dump my data plan and use the Fascinate as a WiFi only smartphone?  Or maybe just dump my whole Verizon plan, go back to a "dumb" phone and use the Fascinate as a mini tablet?

If you want you could activate your dumb phone now drop your data to save money  and use your fascinate for a mp3 and wifi only  and you would be saving $30.00 + tax a month

If you use the Fascinate as wifi only mini tablet, I would suggest that you turn on the airplane mode. Then you can turn on the wifi radio whenever you need to connect to the Internet. The battery will last for days while in airplane mode.
