Cannot install a custom ringtone on Galaxy Nexus

Got my new Galaxy Nexus, cannot install a custom ringtone.

Tried putting an mp3 file into Ringtones folder as well as media/ringtones, does not work.

Does anyone know whether Galaxy Nexus supports custom ringtones?

On another note, both ways of USB file transfer are **abysmally** slow and unstable. You are simingly not allowed to put files in certain folders (Pictures and DCIM, for example), but there is no clear indication where and what you can put. Some uploads just get stuck. What gives?

I hooked my Nexus up to my computer and dropped all of my custom ringtones into the Ringtones folder as well. I had no problem using them. Maybe the file is corrupted? Are you sure it is in mp3 format?

Make sure that you have MTP selected. It is located at Settings->Storage->Menu (Stacked dots bottom right corner)->USB Connection

I copied all my pictures from my Droid X to my Nexus through my computer. I also moved over the two custom ringtones to the ringtone folder and it all works just fine for me.

Have you tried placing them in SD Card / Media / Audio / Ringtones and then restart device

I read the instructions for putting music on the galaxy nexus, so I started a google music account, and downloaded the songs, after the download I hooked up the phone by usb and got the music to show up on the phone, but can't figure out how to use any of the songs as ringtones.  How do I get them to move to the ringtone folder??

Thanks

I had the same problem.  All of the custom ringtones, even the built in ones would not save when I set them up, and instead would revert to the default ringtone.  Think it must be a software glitch.  However, I was able to get my custom ringtones to work in a roundabout way.

First I either text or receive a text from the contact.  Then from the messaging screen, cilck on the person's picture/avatar.  When it gets bigger, then click on it again to show their full contact information.  Then click on custom ringtone and set it up.  Then it should save it fine.  It never works if I go straight from the contacts list whether I have them in my messaging area or not.

Hope this helps a few people. . .

ok i had this same problem with all files ... trying to transfer a picture or custom ringtone or a whole song... i found on another forum that it was/is a cable issue... if you are using the usb cable that came with the phone  then try a different one...  my wife has an incredible2 and i used her cable and my problem went away... i hope this helps anyone in the same situation , if not maybe i was just lucky but it should work... please let everyone know if it does work for you so we all know... good luck

could also be an issue with bit-rate and DRM

Open with PC under Mass Storage and place the files in the SD Card / Media / Audio / Ringtones and then disconnect and restart device..  Ringers will show under stock ringer selection menu.

Download the app Ringdroid. It will let you use any song on your phone.

Then you say how long you want 30 sec or the whole thing or anything

Inbetween then when you save it will say as what? Ringtone, notification, alarm
