Uh, yeah. Let's all just sit quietly whileVerizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, US Cellular, Cellular South, Alltel, and others takes advantage of us.  It is complaints like this that force the issue with these carriers and make them live up to their commitments.

Leave it to Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, US Cellular, Cellular South, Alltel, and others to ruin a perfectly good piece of hardware.  They loaded it up with crapware (bloatware) to pad their profit margins. I would normally tolerate that because computer manufactures have been doing it for years...but here is the big difference.  Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, US Cellular, Cellular South, Alltel, and others has locked the Fascinate and other smartphones (i.e. Android, Blackberry, i*hone, Windows Mobile) so the user CAN'T uninstall their apps.  So your stuck with stupid apps like Blockbuster (probably going out of business this year) and a long list of other apps including Verizon's own apps to push other services like their music sales, ringtones, map service...apps to milk yet more money out of their customers. They set their own apps as the default and make it difficult or impossible to change anything.  They have crippled the ability to tether (use the phone as a wifi access point unless you use Verizon's app and pay them an extra $20 per month.  And, as if that weren't enough, they are STILL stuck on Adroid version 2.1 while everyone else in the Adroid world is moving on 2.3.   In the Smartphone world., this is like the difference between Windows 95 and Windows 7.
Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, US Cellular, Cellular South, Alltel, and others! Stop focusing on how you can make more money and just sell me a phone that I can control myself.

As stated by another user, I bought a docking system (Samsung OEM) but the audio output doesn't work...because we're still stuck on Andoid 2.1.

Oh, and for the response that "if you don't like it, find another carrier"  Well once you get this phone, you're locked into a 2 year contract.  Don't get me wrong, I love the phone, I just HATE what Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, US Cellular, Cellular South, Alltel, and others has done to it.  When I bought it, they don't bother to explain that you can't uninstall the crapware.

To quote another user in this community, Gerio, "There, I fixed for you".  All the other carriers have their pre-loaded applications.  You can't get always from it unless you can buy an unsubdized and unlocked phone for full retail price directly from the manufacturer or an overseas model.

I was replying to the comment on pre-installed applications that is common to all Android phones.  It is the same as this small sampling of posts.

I don't understand making a buying decision based on "how far short" the phone is from what it "should" be.

I'm very happy with my Fascinate; for my purposes, it's superior to any other smartphone on the market, including the other Android models carried by Verizon.  I'm not saying other Android phones are inferior for other people, obviously.  But I'd suggest picking a phone based on how well it suits your needs as the phone is configured today.  Relying on Froyo, other updates, rumored updates, etc. seems like a strategy that will result in frustration and dissatisfaction.

I just want to remind everyone here that we all had 30 days to figure out if you wanted to keep the phone.  No one was fixed in to a long-term contract until the 30 days were up.  Thirty days is plenty of time to figure out if you dislike anything about the phone or the service.  You don't even need a valid reason to return it.  You can simply just say that you don't like it, and that's the end of it.  So, don't keep complaining about a phone that hasn't changed in the 30 day trial period.  You decided to stick with it for better or worse.

Well 10sen people are ticked off because of promises that it would be upgraded and like myself like the phone and thought I would wait for fixes but some of these people been waiting 3 months after being promised they would be fixed up in a week or so and now they are mad because it's after 30 days and they are screwed until an update comes. It has been month for me and have no choice but wait

I can understand the frustrations of being promised something and being disappointed when that didn't happen, but while I haven't kept inquiring about the updates, Verizon has never once promised me an update for my phone.  In fact, the statements that we've been getting from the Verizon people on this website about how our phones would notify us if there were updates available is what I've heard.

I do agree that it would be nice to be caught up with the standard, but my phone is currently working fine since I managed to fix my GPS issue (which doesn't seem to be working for anyone else on the site).  But I think that having a fully functioning update or upgrade is more important than having an update or upgrade that bricks my phone.

Well, the DL09 maintenance release does seem to have resolved most of the GPS issues.  All three of  our Fascinates now achieve a GPS lock in a matter of seconds versus minutes.  So, that's a good thing.

However; not being able to use the docks we purchased and all of the other features of 2.2 that we were promised in November is still a pain in the ---.

The latest communication that I received from Verizon said, "...I have escalated your device issues to our device specialists team. I will follow-up with you once I have a resolution to your issues."  In other words, 'you won't be hearing from us again'.

Lesson learned!  Hope it's not too late for you to avoid Verizon?
