Contacts by Last name

I have tried everything to get my ocntact listed by last name. I have 100's that were transfered to m y new phone from my old phone. Can this be done without editing all my contacts?

Hi try changing to Last name in your gmail account on the computer for them to show up last name first. Leslie

To honest, I'm not sure if any of the android phones can sort the contacts by last name. All that I have seen and read as been first name only.
