I recently updated my phone and afterwards I saw that my contact custom notification sounds were gone. I went into contact settings and no longer see the NOTIFICATION bar to set it. This is not the contact ringtone which is still there. Anyone have this issue after the update?

The new update deleted the ability to customize message tones to my contacts

KATWAL47, having customized ringtones for contacts saved on your phone is definitely a great feature to have. I want to make sure that you are on the right path to setting these ringtones just like how they were before the software update. Were these pre-installed ringtones that came with your Samsung Galaxy S8 or were these customized ringtones that you purchased and downloaded? Can you please describe how you set up these ringtones to your contacts prior to the software update?

The pre-installed message tones are gone now and not available to reset either!

We want to help as much as possible when it comes to tech issues. Your business is definitely appreciated & we wouldn't want to see you leave us at all. I'm very sorry to read that a software update has removed the ability to set custom notification sounds. The software updates are done by the manufacturer & Verizon Wireless does extensive testing with the manufacturer to make sure all enhancements work correctly before we release them to our customers. Regrettably, there is not a way to go back to an older software version. I can understand not wanting to move to another text app that may have this ability, but it is always an option. I do want to look into this further for you & I want to do all that I can to change this experience around so that we can keep you as our valued customer. Does this help include fixing the issue?? No matter if Verizon or Samsung someone [removed] up. Perhaps you could work together to fix the issue. I love my phone and I am constantly bragging about my Verizon services but this stinks and needs to be fixed ASAP

The customized ringtone option is still there, but the customized messaging tones for contacts is gone. I use this a lot to separate texts from my work contacts vs. texts from my friends/family. I never get phone calls, I don't care about being able to have different ringtones for anyone. But I need to be able to have a different text tone for people, even if it's the pre-installed stuff. Any chance of that coming back vzw_customer_supportโ?
Sherwooddoggie, I know how important it is to make sure that you able to distinguish the text tones from one another. I want to make sure that we get everything addressed for you. You have to go tap the contact that you would like to edit. There's a "View More" at the bottom. Tap on that and there will be a section for contact ringtone and SMS tone. There you will be able to customize the sound that you would like to hear for your text messages that will be coming in.

I just tried this, there is no where to change SMS tone. It only allows to change the ringtone.
PLEASE GET THIS FIXED. I AGREE WITH THE OTHERS, I DON'T USE CALLING MUCH AND CUSTOMIZED TEST ALERTS ALLOW ME TO KNOW WHO IS TRYING TO REACH ME. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AND WILL CAUSE ME TO GO TO A DIFFERENT CARRIER!

There isn't an option for sms tone
I cannot find an option for SMS tones under view more in edit contacts!!

I have a S8 and am using the messges app, the yellow envelope. To further clarify, this is NOT about ringtones. This is about txt message notification sounds. In the individual contact EDIT there is no longer a drop down to set a custom sound
I've been trying to figure this out too and it's driving me crazy. So many changes with the most recent update. UGH
I can certainly understand the confusion with the recent changes within the app, Vsgirl8600. We have verified that this feature has been removed in the latest release. Other third party applications may have this functionality however, and so you may want to test out other apps to regain this function. Additionally, we have lifted up the concern and it is possible the feature may return in a future update, so I would recommend ensuring all future updates are downloaded and applied as soon as they are released. I hope this answer was beneficial.
WE ARE NOT ASKING ABOUT CUSTOM RINGTONES!!! WE ARE ALL ASKING ABOUT TEXT MESSAGE TONES!!!! I HAVE 8S until this update this morning I knew who was TEXTING me because I had individual message tones now I don't. We have all gone to edit contact to find the problem but the option to set up message tone does not show up anymore!! How can WE fix this?? I have had this feature for years on all my galaxy phones!! I just want my individual message tones back.
I use it as well. Any hope in recovering this lost functionality? Has this been disclosed prior to the update I WOULD NOT HAVE UPDATED

Custom text tones are still working using Verizon Messages. Maybe switch to using that app?
