Fascinate/galaxy s upgrade issues

After updating my samsung fascinate, my gallery will not delete photos.  All photos were taken with this phone.  Also, once deleting has started in it's attempt, it never finishes - I have to go to task manager & shut it down - otherwise it will say "deleting" for hours (i left it to delete for 2 hrs this morning before shutting down).

Also, after updating, my messaging icon is gone from the menu bar at the bottom of the screen.  I now only have 3 icons: phone, contacts, and applications.

There are also delays that I've never had before.  Opening applications sometimes creates a black/blank screen for several seconds before opening the application.  This is temporarily corrected when I remove the battery & reboot.  Simply rebooting doesnt fix the issue.  I am currently having to remove the battery 3-4 times per day in order to use my phone in a timely manner.  Opening the contact list may take 5-10 seconds if I do not remove the battery when delays begin.

HELP!  This is extremely frustrating!

I would do a factory reset and see if that will cure all your ills

Thanks for replying to this one nickjr.  Nickjr is correct to suggest a master reset on the phone.  If there is an onslaught of issues after an update, it could mean that either one of the applications were corrupted during the software update which could be the cause of your issues.  To do a master reset, choose settings> privacy> factory data reset.  Before doing this, I would ensure your contacts are backed up on Gmail by logging into Gmail.com and clicking on contacts.  You can also export your contacts to your SD card by going into contacts>menu key> more> export/import> export to SD card. This will ensure your contacts are backed up on your memory card in case you run into any issues.

Please let us know if the master reset took care of your issues.

Actually you are incorrect that it has to do with the upgrade... at least with my fascinate.

My issue, I noticed began over a month before I upgraded to froyo.  I kept trying to delete many of my pictures in multiple albums but it would just sit there foooorrreevvverrr :smileymad:  I used to work fro Verizon corp and Indirect so I did all the normal trouble shooting steps: *228, *22899, pop batt, turn off then pop batt, soft reset but nothing worked... I have been SCOURGING the net to find an answer to no avail.  I finally broke down and called tech support... they said they couldn't find the problem in their data base at all...yet it's all over the web and none seems to have an answer.

You are not alone, this is very frustrating as I'm not afraid to admit I have private photos in my phone that are filed between others I enjoy sharing which I cannot do :smileysad:

The only other option until VZW wakes up and sees this problem is to purchase the 1.00 app called photo vault in the market place for any private pics that should only be seen by you.

I reported this problem to a Verizon rep through email almost 2 months ago. Once she got the info, I never heard anything from her. Just the other day, another rep emailed be to see if I am still having the problem.

If they tell you that they do not know about it, they are just giving you a line.

I received an update as well and my phone lagged alot and froze, when i would touch an icon it was delayed about 5 to 10 seconds and after messing with my phone and trying to get verizon to help me which they didn't I was getting very annoyed with my phone so  FYI if you go to verizon, all they will do is suggest to do a hard reset which means you will lose all your contact your apps etc..  I asked the representative at the verizon store how effective it was and she said she didn't know so i wasn't too comfortable doing that especially if you have paid apps on your phone.

I solved the issue with the lagging and locking up and noticed that the feeds and updates widget feature that the fascinate has for facebook - if you do facebook or twitter, it makes the phone lag alot while it's on the one of the home screens.... Yes it's a bummer which I thought as well, but the only way to stop the lagging and the phone locking up is to take the feeds and updates widget off of which ever home screen you have it assigned.  If you've updated recently the feeds and updates widget should be pink instead of green.  That's what color mine is anyway after the software updated.

You can have the facebook widget up that the facebook app offers, that doesn't make the phone lag at all when it's assigned to a home screen neither does the twitter widget.

Once i took the feeds and updates widget off my home screen, my phone works just as good as it did before their was even an update sent to my phone.

I tested it and put the feeds and updates widget to a random home screen and it started lagging and freezing up again, so I figured that's what was causing the phone to slow down extremely.  Once you've taken that widget off of your home screen which ever one it's assigned, the phone works just fine.

Hope this helps!

Can you tell me the best way to remove the feeds and updates widget off my home screen? I want to see if that helps my phone also.  Thanks

Long press the widget until it releases and then drag it to the trash can.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I understand this issue would be frustrating, but I am not giving you a line telling you I have not heard of this issue. I tried to duplicate this on my own Fascinate, and was not able to. I was able to delete a single picture, single video, and group of pictures at a time. I would suggest first clearing your cache from your Gallery. This will not erase any pictures. If you are still having this issue I would suggest a master reset like a previous poster and Mike suggested.
