GNexus text notification volume and no Vibrate

I have had my galaxy nexus ICS a week and am going to return it b4 my 14 days is up unless I can resolve this.

The volume when receiving a text is so low that I am unable to hear it except in a very quiet room. When the phone is

on vibrate there is NO notification of a text. The settings for volume and default dont make any change in this

and the Samsung website said " sorry if this had caused you inconvenience" ....  Is there a fix? I see a few posts

on call volume but they seem to require some sort of download. Any help would be appreciated. I have 7 more days before I return it. Most of my use is text and email, so call notification volume (while kind of low) is not an issue.

The phone call volume and the text/email volume are tied together on Nexus. Is the Volume set to Max? Have you changed the notification tone to a louder sound? Added custom

tones that are louder than the stock options?

You must not have the same phone as me......The text notification tone is not changeable and has no volume control.

I learned this thru Samsung.com support chat line. ( they finally admitted this after an hour with them.) I have downloaded the manual and read it thoroughly. I have tried everything. I have found that in silent mode I do however get two short bursts of vibrate which a barely noticeble and only of the phone is next to your body or in your hand. In a case kills most sound and vibe.

Its hard to believe such a latest and greatest model has such a horrible glitch. It makes it rather useless to me for incoming messages.   Thanks

ps .. my model is SCH-I515   SKUSCHI515MSV

Yes I do have the same phone.

Open the Text message app > touch the menu (three dots) button > settings > scroll down to notifications settings > select ringtone > pick a different ringtone from the call ringtone.

Email is similar, but can be found under the settings of the account for the Email app.  The Gmail app is different too.

Well Thank You Ann.....  Now I just need a custom ringtone with some volume.

I think Samsung should pay you as an advisor......  Their chat line doesnt know

any of this info....  and it took them an hour.....    Big Hug for you

I tend to like instrumental clips from rock and roll songs.  AC/DC Back in Black (the begining) works quite well for me and other similar clips.

To set them as a notification tone, you will need to download a file explorer application from the Android Market.  Then you will need to use that file explorer app to make or access the "Notifications" folder.  I can't remember if I had to make it or if it was already there.

If you download a mp3 ringtone file to the phone it will be saved in the download folder.  Using the file explorer app, move the file to the notifications folder.  The ringtone will now be available in the notification tone selection list.  The main notification tone can be changed under Settings > Sound > Default Notification

I use Ringtone Maker to make ringtones for my Galaxy Nexus. It has the capability to pump up the volume on a ringtone that you make.

I used it to make a Notification Ringtone for my messaging, the starting rifts of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" and pumped up the volume on it. Now I can hear it across the room.
