Any word on when we will see the 4.2.1 update for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus? It's been out for a while. Seems like the other carriers are beating Verizon to the punch.

Don't hold your breath.  The LTE Galaxy Nexus is an orphan.  I think Verizon, Samsung, and Google would all like to pretend it doesn't exist.  Despite being a "Nexus" device, our updates come out weeks or months after the GSM version with all of the above companies blaming each other for the delay in the LTE version's update.  Eventually, a leaked version of the LTE update starts circulating but Verizon waits weeks before providing that exact image to customers.

And we still get the shaft because, even after they make the update available, we have to manually clear the Google Services Framework in order to trick the updater into downloading the new software.  I've had to do that with the last two updates.

It's a sad state of affairs.

What's sad is how people question when updates will come out as if they NEED them. If you want the updates THAT bad then root your phone. I've been on 4.2.1 since it hit AOSP.

I don't think you understand the concept of the "Nexus" line.

Your new to Verizon and updates aren't you? I don't say that in a mean spirited way. I'm simply saying that VZW dragging their feet on updates had been going on since they launched the original Droid from Motorola. As long as they have the best network and are #1 in the US in terms of market share they will continue to screw the people that pay their bills. They could care less about pushing updates out to customers in a timely fashion because they don't have to.

If you get bored you can always file complaints with the FCC and the BBB. It won't accomplish much but it does cause someone from corporate to follow up and assign a case # for review.

It is frustrating how they take their time "approving" updates.  Even though I have the technical skills to <Comments deleted per the ToS>, I have been trying to be patient with Verizon and play by their rules.  A week, two weeks?  Fine!  But when significant portions of your phone's 2-year lifespan are spent waiting on updates, I feel like I'm being cheated out of my user experience.  If you renewed your Verizon contract for another 2 years and you had to wait MONTHS to get your new phone, during which time you are forced to use your old phone, you're be furious.  This is really no different.

It looks to me as though they see it as "waiting for updates" is part of our "USER EXPERIENCE" maybe.  AT least you have a version of jelly bean those guys over on the tablet forum are still trying to go from 3.2 to 4.04 then every day or two VZW teases them with a small 29.3mb update which always fails.  They are really getting upset with that cause some of them may get the update 2-3 times a day.  Good luck with your newer version of jellybean hope you get is soon.

My Nexus works perfectly fine an smoothly with 4.1.1, I suspect the complainers on here are experiencing the same thing.

When carriers released the 4.1.2 to other devices, several bugs appeared, and there were small bug fixes issued to address them. The LTE radio VZW uses is unique, and likely part of the very reason that the near unanimous opinion that VZW is the best, fastest and widest coverage carrier out there. So don't look at the delay in the updates as you being punished, neglected, or ignored, think of it as being protected from any possible interference that some updates may inflict on those radios and the functionality of your Nexus to access data and voice at the speeds you've come to expect.

I would certainly rather wait for VZW to finish testing than rushing to push an update that could severely degrade the GNex performance, and having to install 2 or 3 hastily crafted "patches" and spend time on hold with customer service who are getting hammered by complaints just like mine.

I am so right along with you. As I could <Comments deleted per the ToS> cus I have another one that will be here by Tuesday. This will be my 3rd nexus due to auto reboots and black screens etc. I do feel that the Galaxy Nexus has been neglected and for my first Android I am not so impressed. I even had to force push just to get JB 4.1.1 on here now cus it had been out for at least a month and for some reason Verizon was not Auto OTA so thanks for youtube that showed me how to get it. I have a Galaxy 3 also that just came from sprint and now the Galaxy 3 we got from verizon will not play imbedded HTML 5 videos. I talked to a Tier 1 level tech support and they pointed the finger at Samsung. HMMM same phones Galaxy 3 from Sprint played HTLM 5 no problem. Galaxy 3 from Verizon does not play HTML5 and gets a blank screen but points the finger at Samsung instead of wanting to resolve the issue.

Wasn't one of the selling points that was that because the phone was by Google it would recieve updates much faster then other phones?
