Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.1.1 Update - VZW FAIL

I am beyond irritated that as the flagship of exactly one year, Verizon continues to provide less than vague answers as to when we will be receiving this update.  I used to laugh at Sprint as a provider and swore that I'd never consider AT&T again as an option.  However, I have been awaiting Android 5.1.1 since June this year and have watched carries such as Spring and AT&T release 5.1.1 to their customers.  At this point, considering I pay about $125/month, I have been investigating other carriers and their service records and can honestly say, I am considering paying the fee to break my contract with Verizon to receive support and tech that keeps current.  In my estimation, Verizon should be offering credit to those of us that have been waiting months to receive this update to our [removed] devices which haven't worked properly since 5.0.1 was released.  I've been a customer with Verizon for 10+ years and can honestly say I have never been so disappointed with the service or lack thereof.   Get with it Verizon.  Stop treating your customers, whom are probably paying the highest bills based on the handset of their choice, like second rate piles of [removed].

I'm rather curious how much time and money was spent on Verizon creating their fancy new logo - perhaps the developers, designers and others on that team should have focused their energy on testing and releasing the update for their note 4 customers.

VERIZON FAIL!!!!!

I agree, same situation with my note 4. Really considering Google Fi project! Once I pay my edge down....I'm done.  Google services and a Nexus from now on!

Verizon has let all of its Note 4 users down.  I have done 2 factory data resets and I still feel like throwing my phone into a lake.

Let's be honest.  All everyone is asking for is Android 5.1.1.  I have done 2 factory resets, erased apps one by one, and everything else that has been suggested.  My battery life sucks, I have to send calls multiple times before the phone actually dials them, Bluetooth connectivity is shoddy at best and my phone will just randomly power itself off.

I was told back in June that 5.1.1 should resolve all of these issues.  It is now almost November.  VZW FAIL

Well stated. There is no defense of Verizon, none. This is the 2nd step child they have created. The first was the Note 3. Anyone with a brain can see and admit that. If you cannot, you're a moron who cannot admit to being wrong and changing your agenda, again. This is a terrible situation for customers and thus why they are leaving in droves to other carriers. Why would any Note user stay with Verizon? They have allowed their customers to spend millions on 2 phones back to back that do not work. If you cannot admit and see that you're blind or simply a troll. Dec 26th, no update and you are wrong, again.

I feel exactly the same.

Verizon - please fix something. You're consistently last pushing updates. Before, you were arguing that this is because you're putting the updates through vigorous testing /certification prior to pushing it - fine.. When Lollipop 5.0.1 came out, I was thinking "great, verizon is taking their time because it's broken. they're going to skip it and go directly to 5.1.1" - nope - you pushed the same buggy mess that the other carriers pushed, but months later.

And the fix came out in the form of 5.1.1 which is NOWHERE to be see on the verizon network.

Please do something Verizon - you want to stay #1, start  caring about your customers and having more timely updates - not just 'security updates' which don't do anything other then lockout root for those of us that need it.

(Verizon since '11 - strongly considering T-Mobile or Project FI for our 3 lines)

ps - the most frustrating thing? ZERO communication from Verizon.

Priced Fi  Heck of a deal!  Got a year before the Note 4 contract is over.  The reason I have a Note 4 contract is because they broke my Note 3 in the same way and I had to buy a whole new phone to get one that worked.  I can see thousands going away in droves once Fi becomes a little more available.  Unlimited talk, test and 1GB data for $30.  Can't fail!  Just wish I could do it now!

I totally agree. We have five smartphones on our account. 2 Note 3's, 2 Note 4's and a Droid Turbo. The support for the Note 4's has been pathetic. I will fulfill my contract with Verizon and then I will move away from both Samsung and Verizon. There has been no support for the Note 4. No additional features and still on buggy 5.01. Marshmallow is already rolling out to other devices. There are other phone manufactures and wireless service providers who want our business. Soon, we will be purchasing "smartphones" for $200 instead of $800. Sadly, greed has opened the door for the Chinese manufacturers. Only a fool would pay 7 to 800 dollars every two years for a phone and a lack of support.

And isn't it truly indicative of VZW to not have even posted so much as a

response to this thread?!?!?

Considering that this thread was only started less than four hours ago, you haven't waited long enough.

I suppose you're right about that Ann.  In fact, if I've been waiting 5 months for Android 5.1.1, I imagine we'll have to wait for a certain netherworld to freeze over before Verizon chooses how to reply to this.

jiff777, we want your business. Let's move forward so that you can stay with us. What issues are you having with your phone?

Have you seen the benefits of upgrading to a new device with a device payment plan?

http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/device-payment-faqs/

The cost of your device at full retail pricing is split up into 24 months. However, you will receive a discount on the monthly access fee for your line.

I find it amusing that;

1.  VZW is clamoring for the business of only one person in this thread

2.  Obviously, support has not paid any notice that we have ALL jumped through their factory data reset hoops and everything else

3.  All were asking for is 5.1.1 so that our $700-$800 phones work for the duration of our contracts until the lot of us can divorce VZW and move to any other carrier that actually listens to their customers and provides support and updates in a timely fashion

Thanks VZW for once again proving your insuperiority!

Let me see if I have this straight. I purchased the Samsung powerhouse, "flag ship" phone for 2014 and your solution for getting the latest android update is to purchase a new phone less than 12 months later. Why didn't I think of this? Every time android issues an update, just purchase the latest and greatest which has the update already installed. I understand that support people have little or no control, if or when Verizon issues updates, or in the case of the Note 4 just doesn't do anything. I would just wish you would convey to the higher ups, that I, as an individual, will vote with my dollars. I purchased an Android vs. Apple to have some control over my phone and receive the leading edge updates. You would think that Verizon was in cahoots with the NSA in not even publicly mentioning where we stand on any future updates. Everything is hush hush. We live in a world of communications. Verizon makes its money facilitating communication, however, they fail at communication 101. Without us, Verizon does not exists. Okay, I'm done.

All of you keep forgetting Samsung is the manufacturer and the company responsible for writing the code for the OS updates.

Ann you really need to give this up. You are flat out wrong. You seriously believe other carriers have the update and Verizon doesn't? If you do, I can't help you. And I suppose the same thing happened for the Note 3 that went over a year without an update while thousands couldn't even make a phone call? And then Verizon offers up the idea to upgrade from a Note 4? You cannot be serious.

I don't think any carrier who hasn't released the update has it. Samsung has it. Last I checked, T-Mobile hasn't released the update either.

Ann, Hotshot is absolutely correct.  You are mistaken.  Verizon has the update which is why their constant excuse is that it has to undergo 'rigorous' testing.

At this point, I'd like to rigorously wring the necks of everyone at VZW that continue to dance around the fact that we're not getting a desperately needed fix to our note 4's.

Once again, massive VERIZON FAILURE!!!!

Then explain why the T-Mobile model doesn't have the update either. Which version of the Android ™ platform does my T-Mobile Samsung Note ® 4 use? or the US Cellular model Which version of the Android ™ platform does my US Cellular Samsung Galaxy Note ® 4 use? Who's failure is it when multiple carriers don't have the update for their version of the Note 4? Answer: Samsung.

Ann, I'm sorry I can't explain this any more clearly.  Samsung has released the update to all carriers for the note 4.  It is up to each individual service provider to test the update within their network.  Once they have tested the update, they release it to their customers.  This means that Sprint as well as AT&T have tested the update and released it for their customers.  I'm sorry this isn't making sense to you.  Verizon is failing it's customers plain and simple.
