Galaxy S7 WiFi reception is horrible! Can it be fixed?

I just upgraded (???) from a Galaxy S5 to a Galaxy S7.  First thing I noticed was that when I left the house and came back, my wifi connection had to be MANUALLY reconnected.  I believe I got that resolved via settings.

The real SH^**ER is that reception is totally crap if I am not sitting right next to my router with wifi. With my S5 I had GREAT wifi reception ANYWHERE within about 60 feet.  No change in download/upload speedtest results either.  Download speeds in excess of 80 Mbps, Upload at around 7 Mbps (Charter/Spectrum seems to have skipped the memo stating users REALLY DO WANT/NEED higher uplpad speeds, but that's another story...)

With the S7, if I go to my regular spot out on the deck, about 49 feet from the router, I am lucky to get 2 Mbps Download and .41 upload!!!  That's if the connection doesn't drop!

I move 10 feet closer to the router, I MIGHT get 20 Mbps download.  Another 10 feet, maybe 25 Mbps.  Uploads below 1 Mbps...

UNUSABLE!!!!!

I have tried DNS Set and a few other things I have seen on the web, but nothing seems to make this thing usable for me!

Anyone else have this issue?  Any thoughts on resolution?

Thanks in advance - I am about ready to throw this shiny new paperweight through a window - I just can't figure out whose...   😉

Verizon wireless is here to help Tickler88. I rely on my Wi-Fi staying connected to avoid overages on my cellular bill so I know the importance of this. Although different phones receive signal differently I want to get some additional information. Does this happen with any other devices? What happens if you disconnect all other devices from your home Wi-Fi, does your S7 stay connected?

Jorge,

Sitting right next to my router/wifi source, I can get 85 Mbps download

speed, 7 Mbps upload speed.  This is on Charter/Spectrum where I am

supposed to get 100/7.

If I move away just a few feet, the reception drops to around 40/5.  If I

go to where I normally sit, it drops to an unusable 2/3 whereas my old S5

would get full reception.  This happens with or without other devices

connected to my wifi.  All other devices can get full receptions wherever I

go within my house and even outside!

I have seen many people complaining about the very poor wifi reception on

the Galaxy S6 and S7 devices, but I cannot put up with it!

We certainly want to keep you at top speed on the right network for your needs. I appreciate you taking time to troubleshoot. Is the router connected to a 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi band? Also you can try changing the channel that the WIFi router is putting out the signal through the admin settings on router. Have you tried forgetting the WIFi network on the phone and setting it back up? VZW

I do not know about the band(s) on my router, which is a "Ubee" router

supplied by Charter/Spectrum - I do not have control over it as far as I

know - I was not given an address for administering the router.

I HAVE tried forgetting the network and setting it back up - the

performance got even worse!

I had the same issue when I first got my S7.  Seems like there is an issue with WIFI when bluetooth is also turned on.  Check your Bluetooth settings and if it is on try turning it off ad see if that works.  They said this was fixed in an OTA update even though they refused to acknowledge it as an issue.  My issue went away with the update, but for some unknown reason it has started again.

JOHDWY11,

We want your phone to remain issue free and we're here for continued support. Reviewing our resources surrounding this previous concern we have not reproduced this behavior on our test equipment. How often is the device disconnecting from Wi-Fi? Does the device disconnect after a specific action? Is there anything in common with the networks from which the device is disconnecting (IPv6 enabled vs. IPv4 only, 5 GHz vs. 2.4 GHz, etc.)? What is the WiFi signal level at the time of the disconnection?
