Galaxy S8- WIFI calling randomly turning off

Hello,

We live in a area where service is limited. That being said, my service with Verizon allows me better access than other family members in the house with AT&T. To boost it even more I have WIFI calling turned on. This has worked wonderfully! A software update occurred on my phone on 06/22 G950USQU4CRE9. Since this update occurred my WIFI calling feature randomly turns off. This has never happened until this software update. I woke up this morning, attempted to call my husband, and noticed the call wasn't going through...WIFI calling was off. I've read through a few other threads on this same issue but just wanted to throw my personal issue in the mix as well since most other issues have been with the Pixel.

Any updates on this known issue? WIFI calling is pretty essential due to the limited reception we have at home. I love Verizon and have been with you guys for 20 years...same phone number Smiley Happy Not going anywhere else but would love to see a fix to this issue.

Thank you!

First I do want to thank you for you two decades of loyalty Kelop17. I understand the importance of having WiFi calling in your home. I am sure we will figure this out. Have you installed any new apps lately? Is anyone else in the household having issues with their WiFi calling dropping? When WiFi calling is turned off is your WiFi also turned off?

Hi Amber_VZW,

I have not installed any new apps lately. My husband told me he has had the same issue since installing his update on 06/22/18 as well. He has the Galaxy S8+. When WiFi calling turns off by itself the actual WiFi is not off. Hope this helps answer your questions.

Thank you

KELCOP17,

Thanks for that additional information. Let's gather some more information. When the Wifi calling turns off, does your phone give you a notification? Is this happening while you are in your home, and picking up your Wifi? Have you noticed this happening with any other Wifi networks?

Hi Christina_VZW,

Yes I get a notification to turn on my Wifi calling. So I click on the notification and turn it back on. Yes, it happens while in my home. I haven't noticed it occurring anywhere else. The home Wifi is on at the time. It has not happened on any other Wifi networks.

Hi, I have been dealing with the same problem - I lost my wifi calling since the update on 6/22, but I factory-reset my phone yesterday, per VZ instructed, and still, no change, my wifi calling is still not working. And I have no connections to my kids while I'm at work.  I am contacting you to see if your problem has been resolved.  Please kindly advise. Thank you so much!

Hi GKB1688,

No the issue has not been resolved. Not sure what happened after that update but something definitely changed. My husband's phone is having the same issue. They haven't suggested a factory reset for me and if they did I would not do that. That is not a good recommendation for an issue such as this. They need to look at the update that was installed on the 22nd and determine what could have happened from that. Hope you find some answers.

Hi KELCOP17,

Thank you so much for your response.

Nope, the factory reset didn't work for me, which it took me more than 4 hours to have everything "done", just to find out this morning as soon as I came into work that nothing has changed. I immediately broke down crying.  This is so frustrating.

I have this exact issue with my S8+.  Verizon just sent me a replacement phone and everything was fine for 2 days.  Wifi calling was not shutting itself off until my phone auto upgraded to Android 8.0, Oreo.  Literally minutes after the update I started receiving the notifications again.  Verizon and the Android developers need to stop with these useless troubleshooting tips, they do not work.  There is a bug with Android 8.0, end of story. Please fix it and stop wasting people's time with troubleshooting that will not work.

We have been experiencing this problem since the recent update on my S8+ and my wife's S8. It is particularly galling since we rely on Wi-Fi calling at home because of poor coverage at our home. I have been receiving what seem to be random notifications to activate W-Fi calling apparently after it randomly deactivates.

We're sorry to hear about the issues you've been having since the update. We know how important it is to stay connected at indoors at home. It appears that others have been having similar issues as well since the update. How often has this happening for you? Also, I'm curious have you attempted to reach out to Samsung to provide feedback about the update? That might be the next best option. https://www.samsung.com/us/support/#contact_us_for_support

Yes, I reached out to Samsung and they said any issues with wifi calling

was a carrier issue and wouldn't provide any troubleshooting.

Hi, the link doesn't work. It says the page is not found.

Also, please allow me to share my most recent "troubleshooting" /experience regarding this.  I am ready just to give up on VZ and move to a different carrier.  The paranoid feeling of not being able be reached 9 hours a day while I'm at work is nerve-wracking and I have been losing sleep over this because of this problem.

After multiple unsuccessful contacts with VZ, I was referred to Samsung in hope to get the problem resolved. Eventually, after my 3rd phone call to Samsung, I was sent to an authorized company by Samsung which fixes all cell phones, tablets, and it was located an hour drive from my house.  After waiting there for 2+ hours, as Samsung instructed me to have the company to "software reflash" my phone, which wiped out my phone entirely and I needed to set up my phone from scratch, as a brand new phone. After hours of traveling, reset and restore, I'm back at work today and just to find out that my phone is as if it was never "software reflashed".  I still keep getting the "no wifi calling" notification every few seconds, and I still do not have any way to get connected to wifi calling.  Then got on the phone with Samsung, spent another 45+ mins on the phone, have my phone once again, "factory reset", still, no wifi calling.  I am now at work, while my kids are at the summer camp, and I need to call my voicemail every few minutes just to make sure no one tries to call/leave me any messages.  Is this why I pay $235 a month for 3 phone lines which have no wifi calling? Verizon Wireless, I am here to beg you, please please please help us.  Samsung has told me multiple times that they have nothing to do with wifi calling issues, it's the phone carrier's responsibility.  Please, phones are for communication purposes, and the most important purpose is for our family to get in touch with us when we're needed. Something needs to be done and done soon. Thank you!

Yes, I have the same issue. Samsung just turns me away as soon as I say

it's a wifi calling issue. Verizon software engineers need to address this

bug and stop with the troubleshooting tips that do not fix the problems. I

have performed every troubleshooting as requested by Verizon techs. None

worked, and yet they keep making the same recommendations over and over.

GKB1688,

Oh my! I'm so very sorry that you've gone through so much trying to fix the wifi calling issue you're experiencing. Your troubleshooting with us & Samsung is more than greatly appreciated. We want nothing more for you to be able to use your phone everywhere you are. We wouldn't want to see you leave us at all, as we truly appreciate your business. As a mother myself, I can understand your worry. Allow me to do all that I can to get the wifi calling to work once again. In a thorough review with our forum moderators who work directly with Samsung, they have not indicated this to be a known issue after the software update. Now, I can understand that by reviewing these pages here on this community forum that this has been occurring with many customers. Can you please try to use this link again https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-80201/ ? I opened it in two different browsers & it did work in both browsers. This link is important to get to as it is the software repair link instructions. Perhaps try a different browser? If you can get to the link, what is the outcome of the steps you've tried?

I have sent you a Private Message so I can gather much-needed information to assist you further. Please message me back there with the questions I've asked here. Thank you.

Hi MICYAT69,

Just curious, have you tried the Software Repair Assistant yet? I've wiped out my phone so many times, I'm so tired of restoring my phone. So, I just want to see if you have tried and whether it works for you before I try it. Thank you so much!

I have, multiple times. Nothing worked. They need to address an obvious

bug in the software.

Thank you MICYAT69 .

Shamefully speaking, today was my 4th day broke down crying at work.  I'm so exhausted for repeatedly trying everything and be on the phone multiple times between VZ and Samsung, and still, I still have to keep calling my voicemail throughout the day just to be sure no one, especially my kids and their school did not call me. This is getting ridiculous.  Verizon, please tell us what it takes from us to let you know what a impact this is on our lives so something can be done and put our lives back to normal?
