Ever since the Android Pie update my phone is having trouble sending and receiving texts at my workplace. I am using the Pulse SMS app but this has happened on the default messaging app also. It only happens at work so I think it might be related to the tower I am on. It is also intermittent some days I have no issues some days I do. My two coworkers are having the same issue. Once their phone updated to Android 9 Pie they started having issues with texts. Even trying messaging plus through wifi it took some time for a text to go out.

A software update should always improve your device and not the other way around! Let's work together to find out more about this issue, and in doing so, we'd like to ask some questions. Is this problem happening indoors or outdoors? Have you tried uninstalling the Pulse SMS app completely and test the stock application only?

Sorry for the late reply. I actually called text support because this has gotten so annoying. I have uninstalled the pulse app and that still didn't help. To expand on this issue. I have 2 other coworkers with galaxy s8's and they also started having issues sending texts after the Pie update. However, I also have 2 other coworkers that have a S9 and S7 and they have zero issues sending text messages inside.
The last couple days I can never get a text message to send inside. I can go outside but even that takes a while to send. Last week I was not even able to send a text outside. The last couple days I have been receiving texts inside ok also which seems weird.

I got a text saying the review of my reported service issue is complete. It basically said the network is performing ok. I checked my data and I have 12.8GB free. Also cleared all the cache on the message apps. I also cleared the cached data. I restarted the phone. We will see if this helps.

I will add today I was having issues sending texts out this morning but not receiving them. I walked out side to send a couple texts because they would not send. After I got inside from sending texts which were slow even outside about 5-10 minutes later I was able to send a text inside. But this afternoon they would instantly fail inside. I had to go out the back of the building because out of the side door I could not send texts.

BeerPimp,
hanks very much for completing those troubleshooting steps, it's appreciated. I also want to thank you for all the detailed information you have provided. Please allow me to explain that it's true that software updates do improve your device's performance. However, in many cases, glitches do become apparent. Sometimes, the steps you have taken already do resolve issues that pop up after a software update. However, if they don't resolve it, a factory data reset does the trick. Since you mentioned you have co-workers who have the same model, I would recommend that only one of you try it, so you can compare. Here are the steps you need: http://spr.ly/6605Et5RF
Thank you,

I think I am going to back up everything and try doing a factory reset this weekend. I don't really want to but it is very annoying not being able send text messages. Also I am not receiving phone calls too. And if I am having trouble receiving text messages that means I don't get voicemails until I leave work. My coworker missed a sercive call time slot appointment for his garage door because he was not getting calls or voicemails.

BeerPimp,
I am so sorry to hear that you are also not receiving calls! Before trying the reset, let's do some troubleshooting to see if the issue can be corrected. Are you able to make calls out? What is your city, state, and closest intersection, so we can check your coverage and alerts.

Hello,
Yes I have had issues making calls out before both wifi and regular. This afternoon everything seems a lot better. I can make/receive calls and send/receive texts. My location is Lincoln, NE 68521 and the closest cross street is NW 12th and Kingbird Rd. I am assuming the tower I connect to is on W Bond street.

BeerPimp, thanks for checking back in with us over these texting issues. We want to focus on the right steps here and rather have you avoid a Factory Reset if we can help it. Since the network isn't the root cause here, let's perform a Software Repair on your Samsung Galaxy S8. Our Software Repair Assistant will strip away the Android Pie version your phone has and load up a new copy clearing anything that might be corrupt in the Operating System.
Please use the link attached to run our Software Repair Assistance via a computer. You can choose the option to keep your content so you're not fully erasing your phone. Keep us posted on any changes. http://spr.ly/6604EvI7w

Sorry it took so long to reply. I kept putting it off because I wanted to back up my phone first. I got it installed on my Windows 7 PC and once I get the phone connected and the Upgrade Assistant running I get the following error. "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware."

Since I am getting this error with the Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant does that mean I have to do a factory reset?

I am still having this issue. Does anyone have any other ideas past doing a phone reset that would fix this? Also when my friend sends texts from Sprint I never get them. I can get MMS but never get any SMS from him. I double checked to make sure I didn't actually put him on a blacklist.

We want to make sure you have the ability to send/ receive text messages. I apologize you've been having some issues with this. I see you mentioned you're unable to send your friend a regular text message. Have you checked to see if it's something on his end causing the issue? What text messaging application are you using ( Verizon Messages +, default or third party application)? ChetonJ_VZW

I have trouble sending text messages when I am at work. Most of the times I recieve messages no problem. It seems to be an issue with the tower that I am on while at work. Sometimes I can't send messages when I am in the building but if I go outside it will send. Then there are sometimes where I have to wait to send messages when I get away from work I am assuming once I get on another tower. When this happens often times I don't get messages at that time also. Also most of the time at work I don't receive calls and in order to make calls have to turn off wifi because I cannot makes calls using wifi. This all started after the Android 9 update. I had never had reception issues in my work building.

We are concerned to hear that you are having issues with your text messages. This is definitely not the experience that we want for you to have, and we will be glad to help you get this corrected. For how long has this been going on? Have you tried to restart your device to see if the issue continues? DavidR_VZW

Hello this has been going on for 3-4 months. I have restarted my phone several times. I tried to run the Verizon Wireless Upgrade Assistant I got the following error. "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware." I feel like my only option is to do a factory reset. One of the other two friends with the same issue has seemed to resolved itself on his phone. The other uses a text program that can send via wifi.

BeerPimp, we regret to learn that you're still experiencing the messaging issue on your S8 device. We want to ensure this gets resolved for you. With the fact that your device is not able to perform the repair via our Software Upgrade Assistant and the ongoing issues with texts not being sent or received, we would recommend the Factory Data Reset (FDR) at this time (ensuring you've backed up your phone content first). When ready, you can complete a FDR via the following steps: https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-211113/. Please keep us posted with your results.
