Hiding a phone number or extension when dialing

I have a few phone numbers saved where I put a password, access code, or other sensitive information into the saved number with a pause or wait in between.  I know how to do this and it works fine, but I've noticed that the value is displayed on the screen while it is being called.  Is there a way to hide a number or part of a dialing string so that it does NOT appear on the screen?  I don't care if it is visible in the directory, I just don't want to reveal it to someone looking over my shoulder when I call the number.

That is a very intriguing answer, but I'm not sure how to use it.  Presently, voicemail access is programmed as "*86,<password>#"

I don't think that I can daisy chain star codes, so how would I use *67?  Would *67,<mycellphonenumber>,<password># work?

* 67 is so the person on the other end can't see your number on their caller ID.  Have no clue how to not show the number on your screen when callling, interesting theory.  Mary

it's what i use on the droid x & home phone if i don't want whomever knowing who's calling.

some numbers i call won't accept the *67, then i have to call without if i want/need to talk.

*67pause xx86pausexxxx.

try it, if it doesn't work no biggy.

Thanks for the feedback so far.  *67 is a useful capability, blocking caller id from showing to the remote side of the connection, but that is not what I'm trying to do.  As I think more about the question that I asked, I realize that it can be generalized and it is specifically a question about ice cream sandwich, not the cell phone network.  I can rephrase the question to make it clearer.

Is there a way to mark a telephone number, or substring of a telephone number "private" so that ice cream sandwich treats it differently when sending the DMTF tones?  Normally, numbers are displayed on the screen while dialing and show up in the calling history.  I want to mark a saved number (or a subset of a saved number) in a way that tells ice cream sandwich to hide it whereever possible.  For example 222-456-7890,,H12345#H should appear in the history as 222-456-7890 and the "H encapsulated string" should not show on the display when dialing.  Even better, it should be obscured in the contact list and appear as 222-456-7890,,****** unless / until a PIN or some other form of identifier is entered.

I have no idea if or how this has been implemented.  Perhaps it is a feature of some third party application dialer/contact app that I have yet to find.  If it has not been done, I hope that it gives someone doing app or android os development a good idea.  If anyone DOES know how to do this, I would love to hear from you!

You likely can't do this without using additional software, such as a different dialer.

Instead of using "Pause" you can use "Wait" which will wait for you to enter the secret info, such as a password.

Doesn't do what you want but gets halfway there.
