How reliable is Verizon in sending out security updates.

Thinking of getting an S9 plus.  Based on anyone's experience with their S8, how reliable and regular is Verizon in sending out Android's monthly security updates?

CLAPAR21, It is a good idea to ensure your phone is secure and updated with the patches.

I certainly understand the importance of receiving the latest security updates for your phone, CLAPAR21. Please know that we do our best to release the latest security updates to our customers as soon as possible. The latest version available is R16NW.G965USQU1ARBG and that was released on March 10, 2018.
You can always visit the website below to stay on top of the latest software updates:

Unfortunately, it is now a month later, and there has been more than enough time in order to incorporate the 1 March 2018 security patches.

Exactly. We are now two full security updates behind. Unacceptable.

SAKLR1, I know it can be very concerning when you know that there are other carriers that have released security patches from Samsung. We do take the security of your device very seriously and if you do have the latest security patch that we have released, then I can confirm that your device is protected. We appreciate you as a loyal customer and it would not be the same without you. I was able to send you a private message. Please feel free to respond at your earliest convenience.

How can you tell me my phone's protected when your latest release is two updates behind? No way my phone is protected the way it should be. Especially with Android it's imperative security updates are done. I could somewhat understand maybe a month behind but never getting the March 1 update and we're half way through April is unexcusable.

You really should stop insulting your customers intelligence.

TheS1R, I know how frustrating it can be when you know that Samsung has released new security patches that you have not received yet. I definitely will be happy to assist you in every way that we can regarding security patches to ensure that yours is up to date. We do appreciate you as a customer and it would sadden us to see you go because of this. I was able to send you a private message. Please feel free to respond at your earliest convenience.

This is not a CORRECT answer to my question Verizon.  Looking at the page you referred me to only supports the fact that Verizon is unreliable in furnishing updates to Samsung phones on your network.  The page shows that the latest security update furnished is Feb 1st.  March 1st and April 1st are not being made available by Verizon.  This was the point my original question was all about.

Please take a look at Samsung's Android Security Update page (https://security.samsungmobile.com/workScope.smsb). It shows February 2018, March 2018, and April 2018 updates available for current models including the Galaxy S9 and S9+:

Introduction to Samsung Android Security Updates

At Samsung, we take security and privacy issues very seriously and we are doing our best to respond as quickly as possible.

More support showing Verizon is failing it's customers.  Waiting for Verizon's answer to this, which I expect not to see.................

And mine is still on the 1 February 2018 revision so your mileage may vary...

Was this on the Galaxy S9+ or another device? I still do not see the 1 March security update for my S9+, even when manually checking...

This is on the S7 Edge. Sorry I meant to put that in my response.

TheS1R,

It sounds like you are also on top of the updates. The last software update was release on 3/1/2018. Which version do you currently have? It should be R16NW.G965USQU1ARBG

I was able to check our S9+ update and the last Android security patch update was 2/1/2018.

I find this link to be very helpful. Does this help to clarify your concern?

You are missing the point completely. Users cannot install patches from Google or Samsung that are not made available by VZW. Samsung has released two updates since the "latest" that you quote -- unfortunately, this "latest" only includes security updates as of 1 February 2018 (the 1 March 2018 and 1 April 2018 updates are not included!).

See, here's the thing.  I know what a "bug" is. I know what a "security update" is. etc. etc.  You continue to say that Verizon releases regularly.  HOWEVER, a number of messages in this thread give information as to the actual security updates released by Samsung.  There have been at least 3 this year.  The latest was April 1st.  Verizon's latest update to it's customers was on March 10th, BUT it was the February 1st update.  So Verizon is now at least 2 security updates behind.  I would suggest that someone that has actual knowledge of the technical side of this issue furnish further answers that match reality, instead of answers that are nothing more than "public relations" answers.

Not good at all. Here we are on the April security patch and I'm still on the Feb 1 patch. After just switching from iPhone and the in store rep telling me not to worry I'd get the updates every month I'm a little more than upset to find out it was a lie. We are evaluating other carriers as we speak.

So by doing what you ask, I would be perpetuating your unwillingness or inability to follow threads and questions in a message forum that you have chosen to participate in.  NO THANK YOU.

In 5 days and 39 responses, I received, I believe, 3 answers to my initial question.  I guess I'll just have to base any decision I choose to make, if any, based upon those 3 folks as well as research I've done elsewhere.

It's been a real blast !!!!!!!!!!  ANN154 please have fun carrying on in my absence.
