You will need to change the Display settings on the phone so the phone never timesout. Please keep in mind that since the screen will always be on your battery will drain sooner.
To change the setting on the Droid 2:
1. From the main screen, touch menu tab
2. Touch Settings
3. Tap Display
4. Select Screen Timeout and select Never Timeout
To change the setting on the Fascinate:
1. Touch Settings
2. Select Sounds & Display
3. Select Screen Timeout and select Never Timeout
Hope this helps, please feel free to contact us back if you need more assistance.
Thanks

One way to turn the screen back on is to move the phone close to your ear and pull it away. The proximity sensor will turn your screen back on.
Another way to do that is to press the power button briefly as you would if you wanted to turn your screen on when you weren't on a call. In fact, you can press the power button while on a call to turn the screen off, and it won't hang up the call.
Either of those two options above or staying active (pressing various buttons within the amount of time you specified the screen to time out) on your phone or setting your display time out to a longer period of time, like the Verizon rep is saying (which I wouldn't recommend, btw), there's no way to keep the screen lit up.

I have experienced the issue as well and the solution offered was not the correct one unfortunately.
The screen timeout function ONLY works when the phone is not on a call.
Work through this example with me to reproduce the problem.....
1. Make a call and put the phone up to your ear.
2. Bring the phone away from your.
3. The screen lights up.
4. Press the keypad activation button.
5. Start typing some numbers. (For instance, to pay a bill on an IVR)
6. If it is longer than three seconds, the screen goes black.
7. In order to get the screen to come on again, you have to press the power button.
This is a problem when:
+ You are trying to enter a number you are reading off of a piece of paper, like a routing or account number, or
+ You have more then two to three digits to enter.
This is reproduced REGARDLESS of what the screen timeout is set to.
In order for the proximity sensor/accelerometer to function properly, you must bring the phone all the way to your ear and back out again. This could be too much time in between key presses for some IVR systems.
