IS IT WORTH IT UPDATING TO GINGERBREAD? YES. FOR SOME NOT EVERYONE.

My wife and I own Fascinates, I did the update on my phone not hers. This allows me a side by side comparison that does not rely on my memory.  So should you update or not? The following information should help you make an informed decision if you are sitting on the fence.

First if you have a version of Froyo working perfectly well, you are out of warranty, no insurance and you are not tech savvy, DON'T DO IT, IT IS NOT WORTH IT. The difference between Froyo and Gingerbread is subtle not astounding.

Gingerbread does not look very different, all the visual differences are quite subtle.

Battery life with my phone was good before 2.3.5 and it remains good after, not better. reception has improved in my house from an average  -104dBm (very bad) to -88dBm (acceptable). Gingerbread can be measured as faster with Quadrant Scores;  before avearge was 990, after average is 1500.

I encountered problems with Navigation and Maps after update like many here and I believe they are corrected but only time will tell if correction is permanent.

In conclussion:  am I happy with Gingerbread? yes with some reservations. Is my wife happy with Froyo? Very much so.

Are the differences between phones earth shaterring? No they are not. Good Luck with your decision.

I am very happy with Gingerbread.  It fixed my GPS lock issues and email issues.  Battery life seems about 20% better.  Reception seems better but that could be cosmetic, not sure.  After using it for a week, my phone is working....Finally.......flawlessly.  However, I download and use very few Apps......about 15 if memory serves.  I am convinced that Apps are the major source of trouble.  I only download 1 at a time and use it for a couple of days to make sure it is not a source of trouble for my phone.  That being said, I am sure that some people got a different build of phone than I got and unlucky enough to have major issues with it.  But for me, I would recommend Gingerbread.

My phone didnt give me an option to upgrade. Which I am very upset about. It just did it overnight and when I woke up, there it was. Im not happy with some of the changes, especially since my camera now has a delay everytime i try to take a picture. I hate it. I wish I could go back, but i dont know how.

I pulled my update down, but it bothers me that with others it seemed to just push down without actually consenting to the update. If you needed to wait to back things up before you did the upgrade, you would not have had the opportunity to.

I have had only 1 or 2 minor issus since the update, 1 being Google Navigation, but I fixed that, thanks to others in the forums.

Other than going a different route with your phone, I don't think there is any way to go back to any other previous OS version. It loads the update as the base OS on the phone, so doing a "Factory Reset" will only recover you back to a clean Gingerbread install, and then you would have to set it all up again.
