Indicator Lights on Fascinate

My brand new Fascinate phone doesn't seem to have any indicator lights on the front that blink or notify me that I missed a call or email.  Is my phone broken?  Does anyone have lights on theirs so you don't have to turn it on constantly to check if you've missed something?  My screen is completely black - always!
