Do I really need the Lookout Security App? I just realized how much space it takes up on my phone!

Define "need"... It is not mandatory, but the Lookout program is very handy to have. How much is yours taking up, I just looked at mine, it is only using 748KB . Adobe Reader takes up 3.66 MB, so I don't think 750K is alot for what it is doing...
I've always had a AV on my phone and I have tried several of them and the one I personally think is the best and free (also a paid version) is Webroot Security, I have it on my home pc and it is outstanding. Support is real great

I think my phone's confused because before it said 800KB now it's 620KB. (shrug) I just talked to one of my friends who just came Verizon and the tech told her Lookout is great BUT they can access anything they want from you. He recommended she delete the app if she wanted her privacy back!

I'm sure that if you went and talked to a different person at Verizon, they would tell you something completely different. It comes down to what you want from your device. Do you want Anti-Virus on it or not? Do you want to be able to locate your phone or not?
If you are concerned about privacy, then you probably do not want to install apps from the Market.

Every app has a list of permissions (what parts of your phone it has access to) on both it's market page (you have to accept them before downloading) and on your phone (menu>settings>applications>manage applications, then touch the app you are wondering about). If something looks suspicious, you can always email the dev (address on the app's market page) to find out why they need that particular permission. Lookout is a particularly well known app, so I would assume you would get a timely response from them.
I use look out for my device as well and it has been pretty useful to this point. It does slow down the downloading of new apps a bit but this is because it is doing a check on the app before it finishes. I get a report regularly by email about findings as well as on the device.
Checkout Webrooot, you will be very happy you did..
