Message stuck "sending"

I looked into this issue and it seems to date back to 2015, if not further. Text messages contantly get stuck on "sending." They eventually go through, even if it's 2 months later. It's an annoyance to ezplain to someone that I didn't send the text, only to find out that I did a long time ago. Usually the messages are delayed for a day or two, and sometimes a week. Here's one that has been stuck for 5 days now(see photo). Every message is received by the server, so this shows the app and/or phone is not where the issue lies.  I've been seeing this issue for well over a year, but the sending delay is becoming more frequent.

Oh, no! Dealing with text messaging issues can be a headache, especially if it's been happening for over a year. We are here to help. Which messaging app are you using? Does this also happen with media messages/MMS (pictures videos)? What other service are you having issues with (calls/data)?

  • It has been just shy of 2 months since I moved from Verizon's Message+ app, to the native Samsung Messages app as requested. I thought the message delay problem was resolved, but if not, it seems to have been so through obscurity. The Samsung Messages app doesn't anchor the sending status with the message unless there's a problem.
  • On 8/5/23, I received a delayed text message from a conversation I had with another person, 20 hours prior.
  • As far as I know, my messages are not being delayed, however, the delayed message I recently received, was sent from the Verizon Message+ app.

I can certainly understand the concern with the delays in text messages, Marked. I know I would feel the same way if I had one as delayed as you described as well. We can take a closer look into this. Please be on the lookout for a private note from us.

I have the same issue.  I use the Verizon Messaging app.  The stuck messages send as soon as you turn off your phone and restart it.  The person on the receiving end is always confused.  Before this started, the app used to notify you of an unsent message and you could go to it and try to Resend it.  These stuck messages do NOT have an option to resend.  When they are finally sent after a phone restart, the server date does show the updated date of when the message went through.  Notice the Sent date (date I created the message) and the server date (date the message was actually sent and delivered.  I had restarted my phone on the server date and time.

We're sorry to hear that you too are experiencing similar issues with delayed messages when using Message+, mschiff. We'd be happy to help review more closely, and find out what's going on. For further assistance, we'll be sending a Private Note.

This issue has been present for almost 10 years now. Google has managed to identify the issue and it is specifically Verizon who won't publish the repair. I purchased a third party texting app who was willing to provide legit troubleshooting. Essentially what happens with Verizon and Android phones is there is the ability for text messages to have a collision effect. When this collision occurs all texting stops temporarily. I just had it happen not 10 minutes ago. It took upwards of 20mins for the collision to clear and my texts to go out and new ones come in. Its strictly about timing. The ONLY time this will happen is if you time it just right where the inbound text and the outbound text collide and get stuck. Android gets stuck trying to process the order in which things should occur and locks up.

One method that used to fix it was put your phone in airplane mode, wait for the failure to send message to appear then take your phone off airplane mode. All inbound texts would then load, then you could send your outbound texts. This makes group texting almost impossible on my device. But as of lately, this fix no longer works. So you need to patiently sit and wait until the text errors out, let the new inbound ones process, then send your text.

The issue can be replicated in Google Messages, Textra, Message+, QkSMS

Oh, no! Dealing with service issues can be overwhelming, especially when it affects your messaging. Verizon is here to help.

What third-party app are you using? Can this be replicated with Message+ or the native messaging app that came with the phone?

The issue is resolved for me.

I deleted Verizon's Messages+ app and began using the native Samsung Messages app in August of 2023. Not a single issue to note since then.

Considering how long this has been an issue, it's obvious that Verizon has no intention of addressing it.
