My charging is a problem on my S22 Ultra. I'm getting a warning about overheating when I attach the USB cable and when I place the phone on the wireless charger (it's not hot, nor even in use). I decided to purchase the S23 Ultra (bummer, because I would have waited a month for the S24). I am concerned about transferring my data to the new phone, which will arrive tomorrow, most importantly the Messages+ threads. I have years of these threads and often refer to them as needed. It will be inconvenient to lose these threads, not necessarily world-ending, but inconvenient. I have 38% battery on the S22, so maybe I can transfer using Smart Switch and be OK, but I'm wondering about accessing that Messages+ history if I don't make it on that remaining battery level. Is there a way to back up Messages+ before I attempt the transfer? Most of my stuff is backed up to Google Drive (photos, etc.) and OneDrive (files/folders of client info, etc.), My PC has my Music folder, but as I said, Messages+ is the one thing that concerns me most, if I was to lose those archives.

GrandpaScott, sorry that the S22 is having some charging issues. The new S23 Ultra I'm sure will work out well. For backing up your Message+ texts, our best method is the Verizon Cloud: https://www.verizon.com/support/verizon-cloud-faqs/
The FAQ I shared gives a good overview of VZ Cloud's features and if you look at the 'Managing content in Verizon Cloud' section, there's a question for 'How many of my text messages will sync to Verizon Cloud?' There it covers that VZ Cloud can back up 90-days worth of messages. So that's one option to hold onto your Message+ texts.
I did see you mentioned having older messages than that. In that case, it might be worth looking at Google options for back up. They have steps here on how to backup using their products here: https://guidebooks.google.com/android/getstarted/backupyourmessages
