My phone is possessed

Well I've had my refurbished Fascinate for all of a week. Besides the missed calls and texts and inoperable GPS, today after getting a voicemail for a call that never rang, my phone started flashing on and off - both the screen and the soft keys. Tried to power down but couldn't - all it would do is take screen shots (and no I was not touching any of the soft keys). I had to pull the battery. Left it out for 5 minutes. Put it back and booted up and it was doing the same thing. Did the battery pull a few more times and then it finally booted up but it would only boot into safe mode. In safe mode, it was still doing the flashing, and not letting me press anything. Did the battery pull several more times before this would stop. When I finally got it booted again and out of safe mode, my apps were gone. This is my fourth phone in a month - the first 3 were Droid X's - and this broken refurbished Fascinate was according to Verizon the last phone they would offer me. Well, my contract is up in 3 weeks. After many years of being a loyal Verizon customer, they have lost my business.

Factory Reset, if that does not work, ask for another phone..

I've done enough factory resets to last a lifetime. I don't want another broken phone. I want a new working phone. Verizon says they are not responsible for providing working phones to their customers. Multiple people at Verizon have said this to me. I am incredulous at the arrogance and soullessness of a company that would say this to a customer who is paying them significant amounts of money for service on a monthly basis (not to mention the cost of the phone). So, "no" is their last word to me on the matter. I am therefore saying no to giving them anymore of my money and researching which of their competitiors to give my business in 3 weeks.

It seems like the back button gets stuck, or at least the phone thinks the button is being pressed, which could cause some of the issues. I would try hitting that, as mine has done some weird acting things, and I hit the back button, and it quit doing it.

 Just a thought.

I understand your frustration over having so many replacements and having this issue with the Fascinate. You mentioned you have done numerous factory resets, but I am not sure if you have done one on this phone for this issue. Since the buttons seem to not be working, you may not be able to complete a factory reset thru the normal process. I will give you the alternate steps.

  • Turn off the phone
  • Press and hold the Volume Up / Down keys and the Power button simultaneously. When the Samsung logo appears, release only the Power button.
  • Display will show:
    1. Reboot system Now
    2. Apply sdcard:update.zip
    3. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
    4. Wipe Cache Partition
  • From the Recovery screen, press the Volume down key to select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset", press home icon to select option and wipe device.
  • Display shows "All user data will be wiped out", press VOLUME Up to continue or VOLUME Down to exit.
  • Press Volume Up
  1. Press Home to select "Reboot System Now" - device will reboot

If you've already done a factory reset on this device, I would recommend having the phone exchanged again. I understand you would like a new phone, but through your warranty it does cover a certified like new device of the same model. It sounds like we have already made an exception to give you a different model phone. If you are out of contract in a few weeks, you should be eligible for upgrade now. You can always upgrade to a new device if you want a different model.

You can see my response here to your insolent suggestion: http://community.vzw.com/t5/Samsung-Fascinate/For-all-of-you-saying-you-are-going-to-upgrade-to-a-di...

You've really got nerve suggesting customers sign new 2 year contracts with you and spend hundreds of dollars on new phones when we are not getting service from you under our current contracts and have already paid for phones (still under warranty) that are not working. Among other things, Verizon refused to credit my account for the all the time I have not had service. You have got to be insane to think I would sign a new contract with you.
