I have no other means of getting internet and multiple people living with us that depend on telemedicine, school classes and homework, video chats with other family members that are also sheltering in place across the country. We do not stream video or games and are just trying to keep our lives together. Would it be possible to open up the speed until we are over this crisis? Verizon please step up and help us make it through this.

Verizon does not throttle it’s unlimited data plans. If your speed is slower than normal and you have exceeded your prioritized data for the month, you are at the whim of your local towers congestion. There is nothing Verizon can do for you without everyone else suffering even worse than they already are, because everyone is going to be Deprioritized when towers are congested. In other words you were all sitting in the same traffic jam, they cannot just build an express lane for you without allowing everyone else to use it as well, which means same problem just one more line of congested traffic.

I believe you are mistaken. If you check our plan it is the old unlimited that allows 15 gb per device per month. Our internet is through your 1515 mbr net gear air card router and when it hits 15 we get a message that our speed has been reduced until we hit the monthly renewal data and the we go back up. It starts on the 19th of each month and we were over our limit 3 days ago. and will be at dial up until the 19th. It would be a great service to your 30 + customers to help us out in this time of need. Thank you for your help.

If I check you what? This is a customer populated forum, I don’t work for Verizon.
If you used up your data on the hotspot, then it’s done. Unless Verizon sent you and extra 15 gigs as they did for phone lines

Wireless isn't a substitute for proper home internet. I have Comcast and work at home because of Covid 19 and even then it was having issues.
Verizon can't make people suddenly stop using their towers because you need faster speed. All premium data does is giving you higher priority, it does nothing against tower congestion.

I, like many , live in a rural area. We have either cell with an air card or Hughes net. Neither are a good choice as they are slow and expensive. While it may not be proper it is all we have and Verizon makes it worse when they cut us back to dial up.

WILBER24, we are here to help you with your data speeds. Does it happen only indoors in your home? When did this issue begin?

There are no alternatives where we live. Hard to believe that the city folks don't care about their country cousins that can't get even what we pay for.

We have the same problem!!! Here is the message we get on our hot spot device: "Your 4 GB Internet ending xxxx has used up its 15 GB Mobile hot spot allowance. You'll have speeds up to 600 Kbps until the next billing cycle." (Horrible!) And yet on the device, it shows eg. today: "14.14 GB/Unlimited " Data usage!! Our billing is for Unlimited data. Right, until you go over 15 GB. Like Wilberxx, we do not stream movies or play online games. Right now, I would like to do a little Skype or Zoom with our out of state kids and grand kids, but can't "afford" to until the 20th of April when our GB renews!! One family is in Queens of NYC and believe they have just contracted Corona virus. I need to see them!! For $85/month, we feel like we are getting a lot less for our money than others, yet where we live, there are not a lot of good choices.
Someone mentioned that Verizon can issue more data for phones? Well, these hot spots are basically a cell phone that cannot make calls. Please Verizon, can you help us???

This is a prime example of first world problems when a phone call just won't do, only video calls are sufficient. What is wrong with a phone call?

Actually, Verizon does throttle your hotspot data when you hit your “Unlimited” plan limit. I have the Pro plan (100 GB) for my broadband router, but with three users in my household and the huge size of iOS and Mac OS updates, throttling can start during the first week of my billing period and I’m practically cut off from the outside world until the next billing period starts. There are no alternative companies because they all do this.
