I received the Nougat update on my Note 5 today. Since then, my fingerprint scanner doesn't work. The phone doesn't recognize it. Samsung tried to help. Nothing worked. Verizon, what have you done? Has anybody found a fix for this? I'm so upset.
have you tried to re-create the fp scanner??
Not sure what you mean, but I have removed the saved fingerprints and tried to redo it. I get an error message, "Make sure the home key is clean and dry and try again" then it kicks me back to settings. It's as if the scanner isn't there at all.
redo, that's what i meant.
any other problems with the update??
Here's a few things I would try. See if you can reset the fingerprint after any of them. If all else fails, there's always the Factory Data Reset option, but if you want to avoid erasing your phone, give these options a try first.
Step 1: Clear credentials
Settings > Lock screen & security > other security settings > Clear credentials
Step 2: Wipe system cache
1. Turn off phone
2. Press and hold volume up, power, and home until the Android logo appears.
3. Release Home and continue to hold Volume Up and Power and the recovery menu appears.
4.Use Volume buttons to scroll to "Wipe Cache Partition"
5. Press Power button.
6. One wipe is complete, scroll to "Reboot System Now" and press power.
Step 3: Settings reset
Settings > Backup and reset > Reset settings
Did that solution solve your finger scanner issue?? I updated and mine is working well , but i ended up with another issue. I use the default messages app and for some reason when i open a text i only see the number but not the contacts name or assigned ID pic. Anyone having issue or can provide a fix??
how big is the download??
Step 1: The "clear credentials" options is grayed out
Step 2: I did this and it didn't fix it
Step 3: I just tried this - and it didn't work.
Nope. It didn't fix it.
i seem to recall when the 6.0.1 came in, folks that had a pin or fingerprint enabled when they started the download/install & they weren't able to get into the phone & had to do a master reset.
my f p scanner was so flaky with 6.0.1 that i'm using a pin again after a perfect nougat/7.0 install.
remembering back to 601, after your op, i eliminated both f p scanner & the pin.
download was 2.2g over wi-fi.
wi-fi's ok, imap email, yahoo & gmail ok
messaging, music, gallery all ok
notification of message ok
i had to un-check a few notifications that were enabled & i needed to redo sync of email.
