Outlook Contacts Transfer via CSV

Page 19 of the user guide states you can import contacts via a CSV file.  When I go through the procedure it gives an error that it can not scan the SIM device.  The CSV file is on the phone, and the people app as referenced in the user guide is on the phone.  It just fails when selecting the import command.  Has anyone been able to get this to work on the Galaxy Nexus?

Import your csv file to gmail through your computer. It will sync to your phone pretty quickly.

Backup assistant has a problem with how it works with dates on Gingerbread, but not sure how it will react with ICS

Another advantage of using gmail to sync, your contacts are not tied to Verizon as they are through backup assitant. If you decide to leave Verizon and get an Android phone with another carrier, you will have your conacts sync to that phone without any import/export.

Plus, it is easier to work with your contacts in gmail. Backup assistant is a pain in the rear to work with.

Mine seems to work fine. If all else fails sync import your contacts to gmail or Backup assistant then use backup assistant or turn on sync for your contacts from google. If you need more help than that let me know and I will try and walk you through it.

Doesn't answer your issue directly but I went with the sync-outlook-to-gmail method.  Of course, that only works if you use gmail.  :smileyhappy:

To attempt to help with importing (assuming you don't use gmail), I'm looking at page 19 of the manual from Google and that has nothing to do with importing from CSV.  That's importing data from a SIM.  As far as I can tell, you can't import contacts in CSV format on the phone itself.  You can import vCards, though I don't know where to put them on the phone to ensure they're detected by the import process.  Google's instructions for importing from a CSV file involve importing the CSV file to your gmail account and it will sync from there to your phone when the phone is synced to your google account.

Importing CSV Contacts to Gmail (opens in new window)

Rather than do that, you may as well use an Outlook-to-Gmail sync tool like GO Contact Sync Mod and skip all of the manual export/import steps.  It really is a google-centered device and you'll have to drink the Kool-Aid and set up the Google stuff in order to get the full experience available from Android.

Thanks, I did do it with the GMAIL.  There is an import command on the GN, but when you use it it cann't find the sim.  In any case there is a way.  With google you must drink the googlejuice, just like with apple and the ijuice. Thanks.
