Phone Does Not Ring, Does Not Show Phone Mail

Since getting this prepaid Verizon plan a couple of years ago, my phone will randomly stop accepting calls.  It won't ring,  it will just send callers straight to my phonemail.   It also will not alert me that I have any phonemail messages.   This happens all the time, constantly.   I have no warning.  It is extremely upsetting to my elderly parents if they cannot reach me for a day, or two days, because my phone decides to turn into a brick, and I don't know it.   It WILL still access the internet, email, etc - which makes it almost worse, because I think it is working fine.   Restarting it will fix the problem, but I cannot keep restarting my phone every hour, on the hour, so that it keeps working.   It does seem to happen when Verizon sends its monthly "thanks for your automatic payment" message, and it seems to also coincide with changes in my phone's display (meaning Verizon pushed some sort of update through, I assume).   Something needs to be done.  This situation is unacceptable.

This problem is still occurring.   On an irregular, too frequent schedule, people try to call me while my phone is turned on, powered up, and right next to me, at home (where I supposedly have at least a couple of bars service)...but the phone does not ring.  (the ringer is on).    Callers are silently sent to phone mail, and I don't know they even called.   To make it worse, the calls do not show up in my notifications as missed calls, nor as voicemails.   I have no way to know if someone tried to reach me - this started happening maybe a year ago, maybe a little more. It is happening all the time now.   I noticed recently that the phone shows I have "no service" at home at odd, unpredictable times.  Sometimes when I restart the phone, I'll have a weak 1 bar service.  I used to have 2-3 bars all the time.  I am guessing when the unscheduled "no service" interludes happen, my phone is somehow re-programmed and it no longer functions properly when phone calls come in.   BTW, I have 100% WiFi all the time at my house, and the phone is hooked up to it.  Even when the WiFi signal is on, the phone says "no service."   How can it have "no service" while my WiFi is working, and I have web service, emails, no problem.  Just the voice phone does not work, and my mother is frantic b/c she cannot reach me.  This is intolerable.

And today, I have noticed my phone slipping to "no service" status three times already while trying to use it.  The WiFi is on, but apparently the texting function does not work through WiFi?   And apparently,  my local cell tower no longer functions properly?  I'm at home trying to use the phone, and it is at home where the "no service" keeps happening ...and this is a new problem in this location, where I've lived for many years.  What the heck is going on at Verizon??

The private message / chat terminated on me while I was shutting down the phone and restarting it after 3 minutes, as directed.    I was instructed by the screen to reach out again through social media.  Thanks a lot.

After resetting network settings, I have service again, but only one little bar here at home where I used to get 2 to 3 bars for years.  What has changed at Verizon?

For anyone wondering,  after all the chats, etc,  I still have no idea what is happening with the phone, what might have changed at Verizon, why these problems are happening for me or for all the other many customers I have seen write in about this.  Everything is sent to private messaging - and for those wondering, for me,  there were no answers in the private messages.  Just - verify this, try that...  Extremely frustrating.  The phone has one bar now.   From other comments on here, I expect it to stop working again before the end of the day.  No one volunteers any information at all at Verizon, from my experience.   I do know these problems are pervasive.

One piece of info - one rep DID ask me if I had a prepaid account.  (I do.)    I wonder if having a prepaid account has something to do with getting spotty service....
