Power button not responding and other issue

My power button no longer responds in any way.  This started about a week ago.  More recently, the phone will go through spurts of claiming it is charging, then not charging, then charging again, and repeating continuously for a few minutes.  This happens both while it is and is not connected to a charger.

do you have it in a big, protective case??  try another outlet or usb port.
