I own an unlocked S24 Ultra. I am able to connect to 4G LTE and 5G UWB but not the nationwide 5G.
- I've done my time on the phone with Verizon and they were unable to help. Evidently all options have been exhausted. Supposedly it has been sent up the ladder and I have to wait to hear back.
- I've talked to Samsung and they say the phone has no issues. They had me go through a few steps then I allowed them access for diagnostics.
- I live in an area with plenty of nationwide 5g. It was no issue with my previous Z Fold 4 (Verison version). I swapped the sim from the old phone but all the sudden no 5G. I switched to eSim in hopes that would help but the problem persists.
- I had the same issue with my Note 20 Ultra. There was a thread for the issue with that phone and a helpful poster listed steps to fix the issue via service mode. Even though that was four years ago I was going to try that but the access seems to not work anymore and who knows what has changed since then.
- My thoughts are that this is an issue with unlocked phones due to my previous experience. Possibly whatever settings allow for access to nationwide 5g are either not turned on the phone or there is something with the sim and how Verizon allows access.
-There is no settings on the phone to allow which network I can access. Using *#*#4636#*#* I can set a preferred network type and it is set on NR/LTE/GSM/WCDMA. From what I've read NR is the 5G I'm able to access and if I switch to NR there is no data connection of any kind but maybe that's not an appropriate way to check what is and isn't working. This part may be completely useless as I really don't get what any of this means but that's what research on the internet does to a person. Ha.
- I have done resets and restarts on the phone. All except complete factory reset.
- On posts on other sites only one person so far has said they have the same issue. They are on Belgium. I am in the U.S.

What I'm hearing so far on Reddit is nationwide 5g may not work until Feb 1 and Video calling and Premium call filler will not work at all with unlocked phones devices.

Hopefully that is the case. I'm not sure about those other things but I did read before I got unlocked that some features may not work. I'm just hoping 5G isn't one of those features!

I have an unlocked Samsung phone originally from another carrier and am able to get 5G sometimes (I'm prepaid, so don't get 5G constantly). Not eligible for 5G UW on my plan, but have noticed data speeds are getting lots better with at least some towers. @s1a1s1 , the code you were using in your first post I believe is to get into the phone's dialer settings. You should leave it at whatever the default was otherwise your data service might get messed up. Not only did Verizon remove the ability for customers to manually select the network band, but Samsung also removed the feature too.

- I just need to figure out what kind of problem it is and if there is a way to fix it. If it won't work I guess I'll just send it back and go from there.

Well, I I'm in another city for work and for the first time I've seen the "5G" symbol on this phone. Where I live I pretty much always got 5G on my old phone. I didn't do any kind of update or change anything so I'm not sure what is going on. This leads me to believe it's possibly a Verizon issue.

s1a1s1, it is always our goal to help. Just to confirm, this device was purchased directly from Samsung, correct?

That is correct. It does seem to get sporadic coverage.
It will get 5g service after 730 pm eastern at my home but before that it does not.
I saw it get coverage in the morning when I went to the gym. That was a couple miles away from my house.
It is not getting it at my work location, which is in downtown Pittsburgh, PA.
So it kind of works but it is not what I would expect or what the old phone (s22) was getting.

This isn't your phone, it's Verizon. A lot of us have the same problem with only getting 5G service sporadically or having to be in just the right place. Of all the carriers, Verizon's 5G network is the smallest, and sadly by quite a large margin (check the FCC's Broadband coverage map for a non-biased version). With everybody having a cell phone and many other devices (tablets, smart watches, computers, anything using WiFi) now accessing wireless networks, the root cause is simply that Verizon is having trouble keeping up.
Verizon's service has been good for me other than not getting 5G regularly, but do hope they have upgrading their network on the radar. Will say that in my area at least, some of the towers have better service now, but it's not everywhere.

We had 5G pretty much everywhere here but now it seems to have just disappeared and I still have yet to see it where I live. At least since I've seen it work somewhere else I can assume the issue is Verizon and not the phone and can complete the trade in process. Thanks everyone for trying to help me figure this out!

Hello, joec777. Help is here as you deserve only the best in service from us. Please tell me more. What is your zip code? When the phone isn't showing 5G, which signal indicator do you see? Do you see LTE or No Service or SOS?

Thank you so much for the additional details. We're not sure why you don't see 5G in your area. The reasons can vary, anywhere from cell sites being updated or modified. It also varies on the amount of 5G cell sites in the area and the amount of users in the area.

I have the same issue.
Was on with tech support for a good bit but no resolution.
I saw it sporadically connect for a couple of minutes.
Also had a problem moving the device. When going through the website it said my sim from the s22 was not compatible. Tech setup esim but did not help connectivity. connects over 4g but almost never 5g.
I even got up sold on a new 5g plan that is not doing anything. so I am going to be very sad if not resolved.

Sorry to hear that Joec777. Especially with them up selling a plan that you may or may not have wanted to try to make it work.
I just talked to Samsung about returning this phone for a Verizon version and they will only match the pre-order special for another unlocked version. (but I can pick a different color, yay). It's would cost me $275 more to switch to the Verizon version.
It seems that someone typically finds a way to make this stuff work. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long. Seems like neither company wants to figure it out or even explain why it won't work when it really seems like it should. That's probably just me getting tired of looking for answers. Haha.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Will be getting my S24 Ultra unlocked version in a couple days. I live in a 5 ultra wide band area but not 5g nationwide. The 5G signal is very spotty where I am at. Depending on where I am standing in my yard I will either get 5G ultra wide band or 4G. If I am in 4G, my download speeds are about 60-80 Mbps. If it switches to 5G ultra wide band, the speed increases to around 275-303 Mbps. The other Verizon cell tower 4.5 miles south of where I live has a larger 5G service area and apparently a higher wattage of transmission or higher capacity. I have clocked that cell tower at speeds between 1.7-2.0Gbps or 1,700-2,000 Mbps respectively. I looked at the Verizon service area map and it clearly shows my area in a 5G ultra wide band area but not regular 5G nationwide and of course when not getting 5G ultra wide band, it switches to 4G. This is not guesswork. I am reporting on what I actually see on my phone when using speedtest. I have also noticed when in the right spot, it will not switch to 5G ultra wide band unless I first use speedtest.net. Totally weird.

From what I'm seeing online there may be something going on with Verizon and them shutting down nationwide 5G for some reason or other. It may have just happened at the same time I got the new phone. If that's true then its kind of garbage there wasn't some sort of notification by Verizon that this would happen and I spent hours trying to figure out why 5G wasn't working in my area.
I'm hoping someone from Verizon can confirm if this is true or not. If so, maybe give us some details about it.

@s1a1s1 , we want to make sure you're getting the best service possible, and we're going to do everything we can to help you. Apart from the service not showing 5G, how does your phone perform? What data speeds are you getting on your device? You can check by running a speed test like the one offered on Google.
