Every time I try to update my phone to marshmallow, it fails and give me an error 402. I even tried to use the upgrade assistance program and it keeps telling me my device up to date. What's going on?

I see the software upgrade assistant is now showing there's an update.

I am having the exact same problem. It goes to about 40% or so on "Installing system update..." and then says Error. When it reboots it's still on Lollipop and gives an error of 402.

I am having the same issue as well. I tried chatting with customer service and they say they are aware of the issue. But they wouldn't give an explanation nor an eta of when they will have a fix put in place.

I'm going to stop by the Samsung store that is at a local best buy and see if they might be able to help.

Let us know what they say. I talked to Verizon today and they said that they informed Samsung about it. So who knows.

I tried the upgrade again today with no luck. I hope they find a solution soon.

I have the same issue on both of mine is talked Samsung they say there is no update at all.

I talked to Verizon they say there is and there some issues with the update

Verizon is sending me a replacement phone they think it is hardware related.

At this point I Will only by unlocked Nexus phones they are updated directly from Google.

Google guarantees 2 years  of updates.

Samsung is to interested in pushing out new devices and doesn't seem to care about us.

The Best buy Samsung experience says that my phone is up to date 5.11 is all that is available.

So I am not sure what is going on. I will get the replacement phone Friday so I should no if it's hardware  issues. Because Verizon does not  have any answers.

Samsung said they aren't replacing anybody phone. So at least verizon still watching our back....

I just got a call from Verizon Corperate.

They have been in communication with Samsung

Samsung says ram that error would happen if the phone has been rooted.

I told them niether of my devices have rooted.

As I said they are sending me a replacement phone.

You need to make sure and have proof you haven't been rooted.

Thanks for the updated info! My phone hasn't been rooted either. Still factory set up. I am curious to see how that works out for you. Keep us posted on what you find out. Someone dropped the ball on either Verizon's side or Samsung's side. But it's time that they get this figured out.

I suggest installing an app called CCleaner it has a system info tab that shows all phone info take screen shot at keep it as proof.

I sent my phone off to Samsung about 2 months ago to get the screen replaced. I am wondering if that had something to do with it. I have never rooted my phone or installed any ROMs. They are going to need to determine a solution because this is obviously not an isolated problem.

I would suggest everybody with this issue call Verizon Corp. Support [removal required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service]

So they realize their are more than just me with this issue

I know the only thing software wise I ever did to mine was used the verizon repair program app that comes with our phones. I did notice that once it was done installing and rebooting that it showed the word custom and an unlocked padlock. Hopefully that isn't the culprit on why it's failing to update for me. Guess I'll have to contact verizon support and get my phone switched out.

I believe I have seen that padlock before as well. Do you know if you are still seeing that? I am wondering if after they "repaired" my screen if they sent me back a different Edge Plus.

It went away after restarting the phone again. So i'm thinking it was just a fluke thing. I did download that CCleaner app just to make sure everything was still okay and it showed me not to have been rooted.

Wouldn't be so bad if they at least update their upgrade tool program for the pc. We might have better luck getting this to install if it'd let us repair the device with the most current software...

Yeah, at this point I am just waiting for a message back on Twitter. They said it could take up to a week 2 days ago.
