Samsung Fascinate - audio out doesn't work on Vehicle Dock?

I have firmware 2.2.1, so that's not it.....I know there's a sticker that says it will be fully functional after the release of Android 2.2. But the phone came to me with 2.2.1 installed, and I did check for an update just to be sure, and was told there wasn't one.

I have a vehicle dock, model ECS-M985BE. I'm trying to use the audio out port with a wired headset. I get no sound thru the headset at all, though the headset works fine when the phone is not hooked up to the dock. I've tried multiple headsets/earphones, and I also had Verizon send me a new dock in case there was something wrong with my first one. Nothing's solved it. I called Samsung directly, but after they wanted to transfer me for the fifth time, and I'd been on the phone a total of a half hour, I couldn't handle it anymore.

I've tried using it in "car mode" and out of "car mode." When in "car mode," if I pick the phone icon, it tells me to "connect the external speaker to the accessory." But it doesn't recognize the headset when I plug it in. If I have the headset plugged in and then pick the phone icon, it still gives me the message to connect the external speaker.

In all of these instances, I can hear the call through the phone earpiece, and can turn on the speaker and hear it there as well - as if there is no earpiece connected at all. But I get no beeps or any other indication a device has been plugged in.....but, I don't get that when the phone is off the dock and I plug in the headset, either, so.....

Anyone have any ideas or input? The only thing I've tried was suggested by the first person I talked to at Samsung: download any free car dock app. That didn't help either.

Hi Hallybee, 

I understand your concern in using your device with headphones and the car dock. I have reviewed Samsung's website and it shows that headphones cannot be used with the Fascinate on either the car dock or the docking station for a desk. The information does state that once the 2.2 software was released, it would work. However, this was not one of the updates for the 2.2 software. This is the reason that the headphones do not work when in the vehicle docking station.

Please note that when in the car dock or the docking station, if a call comes in the phone is automatically going to be in speaker mode.

  I would also check with your local law enforcement, as I know wearing a headset during driving is illegal in some states. It prevents the driver from hearing emergency sirens, etc.
