Samsung Note 10+ 5g (SM-N976V) from 2019 does not support 5G

Has anyone found a solution for the issue of not connecting to 5G? I called the tech support many times. After spending over 10 hours on chat and phone calls, they said they will replace it but it was a lie. They have not taken any action until the manufacturer warranty expired, then they said it is out of warranty we can do nothing. Even the attitude of the advanced tech support agent was awful, she had an aggressive temper. This has nothing to do with the warranty and must be recalled for misleading marketing and advertising. I am leaving Verizon for both wireless and land line as soon as I payoff my device after 20 years of continuous service.

This is the generic answer that all agents are using. However, the device was advertised as 5G ready not 5G UW like the current phones are advertised by Verizon. The word ready indicate something that is coming not existing I guess. Also, that doesn't justify that an agent lies, saying she will send a replacement but she never did. You may track the conversation with the advanced technical support on 1/11/2020 between 2 and 3 pm EST. When I called to double check 2 days later, the advanced technical support agent who responded was rude, having aggressive temper and did not want even to understand the situation. In short, she was awful.

Ensuring that you're able to view your device's signal coverage from your  Samsung Note 10 + 5G Smartphone is very important. We've noted you reference that your wife's device is displaying its 5G coverage from her device.

Let's work together to get this resolved. Have there been any recent changes with your device? (e.g., software update, new apps downloaded, recent  SIM Card change, etc.)

Please keep in mind that 5G-enabled devices show a 5G icon instead of a 4G LTE icon on the device screen. When using data in a 5G Ultra Wideband coverage area, the 5G UW icon displays. When using data in an area not covered by 5G Nationwide, your device automatically shifts to our 4G LTE network.

Thank you for your reply, Robert. There have been no recent updates and I have never ever seen '5G' on this device - never.

The options I see in Connections | Mobile Networks are Global, LTE/CDMA, and LTE/GSM/UMTS - no other options.

Thanks again,

Rodney

I'm glad to know that i'm not the only one who feel robbed by Verizon for knowingly selling their customers Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus /5G and we can't use them. I just switched my plan to a 5G plan only to find out it's never going to work on my Note 10 Plus/ 5G though Verizon have been Lying about it being available for 2 years. Now Verizon want all of us to buy a new phone to replace the the 5G phone we all bought 2 years ago thinking it was 5G then because they advertised it. IS VERIZON KIDDING ME? They have become as greedy as Netflix, AT&T, and all of the others. The FCC sit back and allow it. It's time that as customers we make Verizon get a clue and stop lying to sell their phones. This need to go PUBLIC. No customer who bought their 5G phones in 2019 should have to pay for another one.

QUEENDIVA72, doing business with integrity is a priority. The device is capable of 5G UW. 5G UW locations can be identified on the following https://www.verizon.com/coverage-map/ coverage map. The device will work on 5G UW as long as the phone is in a UW coverage area and has the 5G plan/features. We can troubleshoot if there are problems with using the cellular service on the phone for calls, text, and data. We hope this information helps.

Still not true.   The note 10+ 5g Sold by Verizon was the first 5G device sold. It is capable of connecting to the earliest 5G network, ultra wide band,  that was available in major cities all over the United States in 2019.   If you don’t happen to live in one of those major cities you aren’t connecting to Ultra Wideband.   Newer 5G phones have different 5G options for millimeter wave as well as ultra band.  There was no millimeterwave available in 2019, it would’ve been pointless to put millimeterwave on the note 10+ because there was no network for it to connect to yet.

I actually am able to connect in downtown Hartford Connecticut with my Note 10+ 5G just fine.  It was too darn cold and unpleasant to stop and do a speed test.  When the weather improves, I will do so.  And prove I’m using my note 10+ 5G

if you do not live near major city, you are not near any place with Ultra Wideband 5G.

Thank you for your reply. Can you please explain why my wife's device is showing 5G and my device is not? BTW - I'm beyond disappointed...

The answer you provided is just not honest - why does VZW continue to state these sorts of things when you know that, in fact, VZW does not and will not ever provide 5G services to these devices?

The fact that my wife's device has 5G and mine does not tells me all I need to know. This is just wrong!

It’s been explained a couple times in different places.   The note 10+ 5g has hardware for the kind of 5g that was only deployed in about 1% of the USA.  Further deployment was planned, but didn’t happen because of the Huawei ban.  5g is still not as wide spread as it should be, deployed in more urban or populated suburban business areas.

BTW, on other devices you must change the setting to ‘global’ to connect to 5g.  It saps the battery.

So, in other words, it's not 5G...

Planned and reality are not the same. I guess I should have just stuck with AT&T - at least their 5G was reality - unlike VZW. So much for 'future proofing' my device. It's just a pretty phone with the same 4G LTE network - nice...

That's certainly not the way we want you to feel about Verizon and we'd like to turn this around. We'd be more than glad to continue working with you, but we'd need more info about your device.

Let's keep going. Have there been any recent changes with your device? (e.g., software update, new apps downloaded, recent  SIM Card change, etc.) Please reboot your phone. Thanks! -Robert C.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 + 5G has a Qualcomm X50 modem. The modem is only capable of Ultra Wide Band. It is a hardware issue, not software or a update can fix this.
