Samsung S21 Initial Voicemail State

I had family member who had never opened the Voicemail app.  To access voicemail they went to the phone’s “Recents” list and clicked on the voicemail icon.  It did not open the voicemail app, but would play it directly.   The interesting thing is that they had no limit.   Unfortunately in talking about the Voicemail issue with the Samsung phones that many long threads have been discussing, we opened the Voicemail app.  This completely changed their phone to the voicemail icon “Recents” now opening the Voicemail app and the Voicemail locked up and indicated it was full even though just before, there was not an issue even though they had more than 20.  They do not want to use the Voicemail app and just want it back, but I don’t see a way to undo and get back to what they had.  It appears if you never opened the Voicemail app, you are kind of using a default set up.   Anyone have any idea if you can go back and how?

Subquest, if you or your family is not wanting to check voicemail through the app, you have the option to dial *86 or long pressing the number 1 on your device to dial voicemail directly. Please let us know if this information helps.

Thanks... but they don't want to have to do the extra step or be forced through their voicemails sequentially.  What they are hoping is to go back to where they see all their recent calls and the voicemails are shown and can be accessed from their directly without having to open the voicemail app... especially with all the problems people are having with using the voicemail app on Samsung phone.  Basically they want the initial phone state before the app is triggered.  Is the only way is to do a factory reset?  Would it go back if uou did a force stop of the voicemail app and clear data?  Is that how it works if Verizon blocks visual voicemail?
