News Samsung: We Are Not Charging Carriers for Android Updates

Today, 9:25 PM   by Eric M. Zeman

Samsung Mobile emailed Phone Scoop a brief statement to settle some of the rumors that have been flying about regarding the Android 2.2 update for its Galaxy S smartphones. One report suggested that the delay is being caused in part because Samsung wants carriers to pay for Android updates. Samsung says this is not true. Samsung wrote to Phone Scoop, "No. Samsung is not charging carriers for Froyo updates to Galaxy S. We hope to have more detail on status shortly. Promise!" Samsung has pushed back the Froyo update for its Galaxy S line of devices several times, leaving them stuck with Android 2.1. Samsung has sold more than 4 million Galaxy S handsets in the U.S.

Its a strong bet that the phrase "yeah right...." would apply here.  If anything though, Samsung's reply should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

Maybe this will cause them to be more on top of things.  Sony Ericsson realized it the hard way and Samsung is on the same track if they don't pick it up.

"We hope to have more detail on status shortly."

This statement leads me to think it's Samsung and not te U.S. carriers causing the delay.
