Does anyone else that has this phone have a constant issue with screen capturing when trying to lock the phone?  Since that stupid automatic update last May my phone has been doing that and it keeps doing the screen captures.  Does anyone know how to turn this off or help me out? Thanks

Have you done the Gingerbread update that was pushed out a few weeks ago? That fixed the phantom screen shots with my Fascinate. Check your firmware version to see what it is, if it is 2.3.5, then you got the Gingerbread update, otherwise, check for updates and see if it is available.

YES, my phone keeps doing screen captures too.  It started more recently and I keep going into the thumbnail directory and deleting them but it is very annoying.  I am not sure what it is I am doing to initiate the capture.  It usually happens when i press the back button but it may be a button combination and I may be pressing something else simultaneously.

I have read about this on another android forum so it might not be unique to just the Charge.

My firmware version is 2.3.6 and when I check for updates it says it is up to date.  So other suggestions?

Good Afternoon Sheila_NH,

I know how important it is to gain reliable performance from your handset. I'm glad to hear your software is up to date. I recommend running the device in safe mode for a while to see if the issue may be the result of third party apps. I have included instructions for both the Fascinate and the Charge, as I am not sure which specific device you have.

Should your problems continue after testing the device in safe mode, a hard reset would be the next step.

I hope this information is helpful.

Thank you Jonathan_Vzw.  Mine is the droid and I did not realize there was a "safe mode" for the phone.  Learned something new and I appreciate it.  Today the phone said there was an update which i am loading now (when I checked the other day it said it was up to date) so maybe that will "cure" it.  If not I will try the safe mode.

This problem is caused by a design defect in the phone hardware. The only way to turn it off is to remove the screencapture package. Search for phantom keypress at xda-developers.com in the fascinate forum
