Since Im stuck with Jellybean, How can I stop Verizon from FORCING Updates?

I have an SG3 16gig. This morning at 6am Verizon forced an update on me. My phone was on and they must have somehow pushed the Jellybean update on me. Needless to say I did not want the update right away. I prefer to wait and see what others are dealing with and the problems they have before I join that group. Is there a way to stop Verizon from doing these updates? Just cause they tell me its better doesnt mean I agree with them. They basically ruined my phone as it is sucking memory and battery and I have the phone just sitting on my desk with the screen off. I have to believe that this is going to wear out my battery faster and it makes the phone run hot eating up all that memory. SO.. if any other user can tell me how to stop verizon from forcing updates on me, or if Verizon can comment back on why they do things I didnt want that would be great.

The exact same thing happened to mine, OP.  Azsaluki, correct me if I am wrong, but Samsung released an update months ago and we had the option to wait. This WAS forced and DOES kill the battery. I haven't done a reset, yet. At LEAST battery life is the only issue I've noticed, unlike the disaster GB was on my DX. However, maybe I can shift some of the clustertruck that updates were on my DX off of Moto and onto Big Red. My GS3 was perfect before this update and I havent posted in weeks. Thanks VZW. By the way, I know the Android song and dance........shut up and do a reset. But, not without my whining, first.

you can't. IF you catch it when it prompts you for the update, you can decline it.....but it will just keep doing this until you eventually miss it. the only way is to alter your device in a way that will void your warranty. if you do that, then you will not receive their updates.

you may want to try a factory reset because it sounds like you got a bad update. my wife's was updated last friday and has had no issues since then. i know a reset is a hassle, but i would try it (back up anything you don't want to lose though).

Haven't posted in weeks? Try months, droidsw.

Good luck with working through your issues from the JB update.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Hello Ann. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays. Yes, I will do the reset and hopefully things will be fine. Just checked the forum to see if I was imagining things. I wasn't. Good 'ol Android. Still better than the other options. Still luv my GS3 and Samsung tablet, too. Tablet is wifi only. Guess that means VZW won't be forcing anything onto it.......

I really like the SG3 but the simple things that made it great is what does not work. Battery life is a big downside too. I do a ton of streaming on this phone and just something as exiting out from full screen no longer works. Im going to back up all my files and call up verizon. Im sure they will say the same thing, factory reset. But man this is a pain. Waited months and months to get this update while Verizon said they were tweaking it or something like that only to have it an epic fail. Funny thing is everytime i get an update its when i reset the phone this time my phone was on at 30% battery (was sleeping) and the update just forced itself. My SG3 got Verizon raped.

unless you had altered your device, i don't believe you could install the original samsung update (i could be wrong). the update that my wife got was the verizon one that was pushed last friday. it hasn't had any issues and if it is getting less battery life, it's not noticeable.

Check your GPS in Settings. I noticed after the update, the GPS icon in my Notification Bar. I should know by now what was going on (but I am not Wildman).  I turned off ALL of the GPS selections in Settings and my battery is only going down 2% per two hours, as opposed to maybe 10% in ONE hour. No factory reset. Doesn't give VZW the "right" to push updates on us. But, that is a story for another thread.
