A text message saying "Dollar's" was sent (but failed) from my phone as a response in a group text, but I did not type it.
What does this mean? Is my phone hacked?

It just happened at 12:39 pm today.
I'm using the default messages app that came with the phone (version 10.1.50.63).
Bellemathis, we appreciate that image. This certainly would be alarming. Have you had other instances of this behavior? Do you also use Verizon Messages from the computer? If so, would anyone else have access to your account? Is this phone connected to share with a watch?
