USB Device Not Recognized

"The USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it"  Yup, thats the new message I get now when I plug the phone into the PC.  Powering down and pulling the batt doesn't fix it either.  Settings on the phone appear to be correct.  Haven't installed any new apps or made any recent upgrades either and it was just working the other day too. Anyone have any ideas?

You can try:

Turn off both phone and computer.

Turn both on and try again.

( assumed you've done this but never good to assume. )

No good.  Can you try your phone on another computer?

Another option:

download usbdeview.zip from

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html

Run that, it will show you all usb devices 'installed' on your computer.

Look for you phone in the list, should show up as   Samsung_android.

Right click on your phone, then try 'disconnect' device first with phone unplugged.

Plug in phone. Try again.

If that doesnt work, try 'uninstall seleced device'...with phone not plugged into computer.

Then plug phone in and try again.  Windows 'should' recognize and reinstall hardware drivers.

Hope the above helps.
