Have you tried a different USB cord or cleaning the port, as dirt can mess up the connection? The problem could also be if you've got the other end of the cord plugged into the wrong port as there are different varieties of USB ports. If none of those is the culprit, then there is a hardware issue with your device where the USB port is going out or a connection is loose somewhere - a repair shop would either have to do some re-soldering of the connections, or replace the USB port.
