Unable to access Phone ringtone setting screen. HELP

Message says:  The application settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly.  Please try again.

I have tried all evening and get the same message.  At present time my phone does not have a phone tone at all when I call the phone with my house phone.  I have the Phone Vibrate check so I can tell that way that I have a call.  The Silent mode is unchecked.  I checked the ringtone volume and it is more than half way on the bar.   I have tried everything that I know to do.  Only other thing I can think of, is do a Factory data reset but really don't want to do that since I will have to re-enter all my contacts.

Would appreciate any help.  Thanks!

Thanks for the information everyone. Yes, try removing the battery for 1-2 minutes to reset your device. I have also listed the steps to set the ringtone on your Samsung Fascinate below.  By selecting a louder/different ringtone, this may resolve your issue.

  1. From the home screen, select Applications.

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Select Sound & display.

  4. Select Phone ringtone.

  5. Select a ringtone then select OK.

If you continue to have issues with the Ringer on your device, you may send me a message with your contact information so we may address them together.

If they are phone contacts, you can back up your contact either through the Verizon Backup Assistant, or some other backup application, you would not have to reload all of your contacts, or SMS messages, or things like that. If they are Google contacts, once you reconnect your account to Google, they should come down automatically. Any paid app will reload when accessing the market, you would just have to find all the free apps that you loaded before the reset, and reload them.

I had to have my phone replaced, and I took pictures of the screens before I wiped my device to send back, that way I knew what apps were where, and as soon as I got my new phone, I downloaded all my contacts, reloaded all my apps, and withing an hour or so, had my phone back to where it pretty much was before the change.

Your SD card should be unaffected.

This may sound stupid to you given that you've tried several things, but was one of those things turning the phone off, pulling the battery for about 10 seconds, putting the battery back in, and powering up the phone?  I only ask because sometimes in our attempts to deal with a problem head-on, we forget some basic troubleshooting methodology, like powering down and powering up.

Let's avoid a reset if possible.
