Upgrading with another store

I was browsing the Verizon store online and I really fancied the look and features of the Samsung Fascinate, however whilst browsing Walmart online, I found that their price was free, whereas Verizon's was 99.99$. There don't seem  to be any catches or loopholes, so I was wondering if I can upgrade tomorrow (July 4th) by ordering through Walmart.com.

Thank you for your time!

To my knowledge you can upgrade your phone, however when you do it through WalMart, etc online retailers, you have to get a contract and I think you end up getting a new phone number. You need to confirm that info with Walmart though.

When I upgraded at Costco, I kept my same telephone number.  I am assuming all retailers have access to the same Verizon info when they update you.  Have a nice day.

Then I would run not wait another minute and get the upgrade before the 7th of July

I'm just curious, why would I be hasty and try to get it before the 7th? I have a two year contract and a family plan and everything, and it says I can upgrade the 4th.

On July 7th, Verizon is doing away with their $29.99 unlimited plan for new numbers and any upgrade from a standard phone.. You will be put into a "Tiered" plan, 2 GB for $30, etc.  So as the previous person wrote, I would do it before that date.

Unless I missed it, I don't think the OP said whether they were upgrading from a smartphone or a non-smartphone. If you already have a smartphone with data plan, July 7th has no effect on you and there is no hurry to upgrade. Of course my opinion is not to upgrade at all and avoid signing a new contract with Verizon at all costs.

FYI, Amazon Wireless at Amazon.com has the Fascinate for $.01 (one penny) on a two year contract or upgrade.  Amazon told me that they charge sales tax in only a small number of states, which can save a lot for people in some states.  (Here in California, sales tax is computed on the full retail price, so the tax on a $500 phone would come to about $45.)

Be sure to read all of the terms and conditions.  Amazon has their own penalties for early cancellation, in addition to Verizon's penalties.  Verizon will tell you that they (Verizon) cannot honor the warranty, and you'll have to go back to Amazon for any problems.  I don't know whether this is a big deal or not.

I haven't purchased a phone from Amazon yet, simply because my next phone is not eligible for an upgrade until the end of this month. But for the difference in price and also the big savings on sales tax, I'm pretty sure I will go thru Amazon when the time comes.

Thanks you everyone in the community for your information. You are able to upgrade through other channels other than our website, our corporate store, or our customer service. Other channels like Amazon, Walmart and authorized retailers have their own cost, return policy, insurance option and warranties and you will want to be sure you read all their information and ask them about any additional fee's or policies before purchasing equipment through them.

Before buying from anyone, including Verizon, be sure that you read and understand all of the terms, conditions and policies regarding your purchase and the contract that you are entering into.  Don't automatically assume that you're better off with Verizon, or anyone else for that matter.
