Verizon mobile texts now blocking links to political websites?

I have been attempting to send a link to a friend and the link refuses to go through. It has been suggested the Verizon is now blocking links to certain political websites from being sent VIA text. 

Is there any truth to this or why cannot I send a simple link to a political website?

If the link or website had been previously flagged as containing malicious information or something else nefarious, I could see why a carrier might block it from being sent. Otherwise, there shouldn't be an issue with sending a web link to another person.
