Here is the bottom line... VZW is a  ****  operation.   Their so-called leadership is not about providing a fair value for the customer's money.   It's about how to come up with the latest way to sucker the customer into re-upping their plans.  It's about making money by filling these devices with whatever company pays them for the crapware they can then turn around and cram down the hapless customer's throat... wasteful, buggy, and un-removable.  This isn't what android was supposed to be about... and it sure as ****  isn't what the nexus brand is supposed to be about.  I know the vzw reps are lurking out there, reading these posts, and having a good laugh at our expense... and what an expense it is!   The notion that these updates take so long because of testing is pure **** ... if that were the case then there would not be a 4.2.2 update coming down the pike because the people Verizon would have only just heard about it now and it would take them another 6 months to test it... because they wouldve still been working on 4.2.1 which has been out, like, FOREVER.  VZW had no business with branding this phone a nexus... but if they hadn't I would have already DUMPED their sorry ****.

"As to why I'd leave at the end of my contract...since this string is about the GNEX I didn't bother to go into the entire litany of difficulties, poor customer service, crappy reps, failures to follow up on commitments, and outright lies we've experienced.  Times we've called over issues, only to be told a week later, after the issue has NOT been resolved, that there doesn't seem to be any record of our previous call, and there's nothing that can be done but go from there.  Even when I pointed out to a supervisor that there was a call ON MY VERIZON BILL showing that we'd spoken to them on the date at the time we claimed...they said that since there was no record of what was discussed we were pretty much out of luck.  I could go on...but like I said, this string is about the GNEX."

Your original post did not mention any of this, only that you wanted to leave because another phone JUST got 4.1.2 and your Nexus is STILL sitting at 4.1.1 . Besides, the only differences between those 2 version is:

  • Lock/home screen rotation support for the Nexus 7[91]
  • One-finger gestures to expand/collapse notifications[92]
  • Bug fixes and performance enhancements

Is it really worth getting so worked up about?

There were a few more changes from 4.1 to 4.2...

  • "Photo Sphere" panorama photos
  • Keyboard with gesture typing
  • Lock screen improvements, including widget support and the ability to swipe directly to camera
  • Notification power controls ("Quick Settings")
  • "Daydream" screensavers, showing information when idle or docked
  • Multiple user accounts (tablets only)
  • Support for wireless display (Miracast)
  • Accessibility improvements: triple-tap to magnify the entire screen, pan and zoom with two fingers. Speech output and Gesture Mode navigation for blind users
  • New clock app with built-in world clock, stop watch and timer
  • All devices now use the same interface layout, previously adapted from phones on 4.1 for smaller tablets (with centered software buttons, the system bar at the top of the screen, and a home screen with a dock and centered application menu), regardless of screen size
  • Increased number of extended notifications and Actionable Notifications for more apps, allowing users to respond to certain notifications within the notification bar and without launching the app directly
  • SELinux
  • Always-on VPN
  • Premium SMS confirmation
  • Fixed a bug in the People app where December was not displayed on the date selector when adding an event to a contact
  • Added Bluetooth gamepads and joysticks as supported HID
  • Fixed Bluetooth audio streaming bugs
  • Long-pressing the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth icons in Quick Settings now toggles the on/off state
  • New download notifications, which now shows the percentage and estimated time remaining for active app downloads
  • New sounds for wireless charging and low battery
  • New Gallery app animation allows faster loading
  • USB debug whitelist
  • Bug fixes and performance enhancements

The OP said they are on 4.1.1, and you posted all the updates from 4.1 to 4.1.2   I posted is just the enhancements from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2

My two cents -

I think what is upset with (as with I) - is that Verizon sold this phone as a Google experience phone and leading us to believe that we would be getting our updates faster before other similar phones (from Verizon and other carriers).

But sadly this is not case.

But as I commented, that wouldn't be fair to the owners of all the other models, would it. Verizon has a lot of phones that need updating, and the OP is talking about a simple 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 update...

Hopefully, there comes a point where the carriers do not have anything to do with updating the OS of the phone, they let the manufacturer or the OS maker do the updating, but I don't see that coming any time soon.

I have 4.2.2 on my tablet as well, and there are a LOT of improvements and just neat gadgets. What I'm most looking forward to is the improvement in the radios.  I'd LOVE to have 4G at least most of the time, and supposedly the new radios are a much-needed improvement. I'm extremely disappointed in the way Verizon handles updates for the Nexus line of phones because they're marketed as always having "the latest and greatest."  The company doesn't live up to the promotion; it's as simple as that.  I don't really care about the fine print in their "terms of service" saying how they can pretty much do whatever they want regardless of what they tell you they're going to do.  I don't really care about other lines of phones because they don't market them as being a Nexus type, and therefore getting the updates first.  >Comment deleted<

What you're still missing is that regardless of what verizon does in relationship to other phones, they aren't living up to their marketing of the GNEX.  You don't get to buy a stock Motorola phone and then say it's not fair that Nexus phones get updates first.  If you wanted that you should have bought a Nexus phone.  That's what verizon would tell you if you asked.  What isn't fair is for them to sell me an expensive phone with the sales pitch that it's a "Google experience" phone, and will therefore get all the android updates first, and then not follow through.  It's not fair that every other major carrier updates their Nexus phones MONTHS ahead of ours. Really it's all very simple...I'm only asking to get what I paid for and what verizon SAID I'd get when I signed up with them.  That's all.  I'm not asking for anything extraordinary so I don't really get why others keep caterwauling about what's fair to other phone-type users, or ask why I'm upset at all because the updates don't make a big difference.  Cumulatively they DO...and we're not one but FOUR updates behind, with Key Lime Pie RUMORED to be following within months...

Could I live without the extra bells and whistles?  Sure...but I shouldn't HAVE to...
