What did 4.0.4 do for you?

Finally got my update, I have had it almost 20 hours and I am trying to figure out what it was supposed to do.  Screen orientation issue is fixed but that was the least of my problems.  I am still operating at -115 dbm.  So signal strength issue not fixed. Bars do display differently but the dbm strength (the real indicator) is exactly the same.  Call quality has not improved at all, in fact it may be worse.  It has a different sound that is more muffled instead of the robotic sounds.  Still have tons of background clicks and squeals etc.  I am trying to patient as I have been for the last almost six months but it doesn't appear that the update has helped in the ability to use the GNEX as a phone.  I'd love to hear from others, what did 4.0.4 do for you?

Could it be that you're just in a poor signal area?  I really doubt an update is going to fix it if the dBm are that low.

No I can see Verizon tower out my window.....less than a quarter of a mile.  Other comparable phones in the house are at -80 dbm.  Verizon first tried to blame it on that until they pinpointed my exact location to their tower.  I have a friend with the phone who lives 40 miles from me and she has the same issues and 4.0.4 didn't help her either.

I updated to 4.04 and I am still having the same issue. I had a droid bionic and had full 4 bar 4g in my house, since I switched to the nexus. I can only maintain 4g for 2 minutes max then it goes to no signal. I even called samsung and they claim to not know anything about this issue. If you google this problem you will find numerous pages of people with the same issues.

For me the biggest fix 4.0.4 brought is the 3g/4g hand off issue.

Whether I am in 3g or 4g, I stay connected to that network for a long time. Perhaps Verizon tweaked the towers in my area, but I am getting the best speeds I have had yet since the update with 4g. Most of the time I swear the phone was showing 4g in error, cause the speeds were so low.

I am glad the screen orientation doesn't lag anymore from landscape to portrait. The menu transitions feel smooth to me as well. The update doesn't appear to have done anything to my call quality, but I never considered it to be poor to begin with.

The update did not fix my alarm clock rebooting issue. If I set an alarm, and hit snooze 3 times in a row, it reboots. I cannot tell a difference with the ringer volume either.

I have had the update since Saturday. I get much longer connection times to the 4g. It also switches off a little better. I still have issues with it dropping the signal as soon as I start a phone call and try to send a txt message. So I went to the store today and a Tech told me it was a sim card issue. So he changed the sim card and said your all set. I walk out of the store try to make a call........no signal. 10 feet outside the store. I walk right back in and show him no signal. He changes it again and said it must have just had luck of getting two bad sim cards in a row. So I get another one. Leave the store and about 10 minutes into a phone call it happens again. I am going to give this another day or two and if I have to go back in I am going to demand a droid maxx. I am over this ipod touch trying to disguise itself as a phone. Oh yea he also told me I should just leave the phone on 3g most of the time and only change it back if I need to download or stream something. If that is the case why even have 4g at all?

Mr. Commonsense,

I have been promised since January by Verizon and Samsung that this update would fix my issues.  I DO NOT live in a poor coverage area.  I can see the Verizon tower as I type this, I can walk there in like five minutes.  I live in a well covered 4g area.  When I began calling in January Verizon tried to tell me this until they mapped my location.  They no longer give me that excuse.   We have six other lines on the account, all get excellent reception.  I have had other 4 g phones here that are of a different manufacturer that record around -80dbm.  I am at between -110 to -120 pretty much all the time. As I am sure you know this does not make for good phone service.  I cannot keep a good data connection more than 15 ft. from my router.  Laptops can go anywhere in the house and get a data connection.  So before you tell me I am crying......get the facts straight please.

I too live a half a mile away from a verizon tower, and after googling verizon towers on G maps to see towers closest to me i found it was not a 4g tower. I found that the 2 closest 4g towers to my house were over 8 miles away, and I get 12 mbps down and 6 up. Just an fyi that every verizon tower isn't a 4g tower. I also noticed in the update they fudged with the receprion bars, I always had at home 1-2 bars always at home and now I have 3-4 bars now after the update. But using the speedtest.net app I still only get 12 down and 6 up on my 4g. Kind of sad to add bars to my phone when the signal hasn't changed.

Stop yer whining and crying. Call and have Verizon fill out a trouble ticket for your area.
