Why I Hate Verizon - Let Me Count The Ways

Sorry everyone, but I need to vent and Verzion's Customer Service just makes it worse.

In no particular order:

1) When I’ve called Customer Service to see when Froyo is coming out they tell me 2.1 is Froyo...

2) Froyo FINALLY comes out, but my phone doesn't notify me so I wait and wait...

3) I accidentally find the Froyo update, but can’t find anywhere on the Verizon website that tells what’s new or how to use it

- Seriously – what the heck is Mobile Data? And where did Airplane Mode go?

4) V’s Froyo update replaced my home screens – Fun for me!

5) V's Froyo update rearranged all of my apps - Yeah that I have to put 200 plus apps back the way I like them

6) Not only can I still not remove V’s Crapware, but they’ve added more! Joy!

- Ever hear of CityID? They are in a lawsuit and the app has been pulled from the Market. So why can't I remove it?

Honestly I’m too disgusted to continue. They win. I’m too tired from putting phone back the way it was to finish this rant.

I feel your pain being a Fascinate owner as well, here is some help I hope:

1) --A rep was wrong, it happens

2) Not sure if major updates are supposed to push to the phone, always best to visit Settings > About Phone > System Updates

3)--Airplane mode can be found in Settings > Wireless & network,  look for "Airplane Mode" and check the box.  You can probably find a widget in the market that will allow you to toggle it from the home screen

4) --Any major update to any Android phone will do this, don't know if it can be avoided

6)--The only way to remove any app bundled with the ROM is to root the phone which will void your warranty.  This bothers me as well.  I wish Verizon, instead of installing the bloatware, would just put a link for those who would feel those apps would benefit them.  That way we would not have to make the choice of voiding our warranty or having our phone set up the way we like.

In closing, I have to say this will likely be my last Samsung phone unless they/Verizon get their act together about updating the OS in a more timely manner.  Check Motorola and HTC, always right behind the developer (Nexus) phones with major updates.

Your reply makes me feel like I was on the edge and you were talking me down. Laf!

I've been with Verizon since they were called AirOne in their early years so I should know what that expect.

Even so...

1) If you don't know say you don't know - don't make crap up.

2) All other updates have been OTA and besides I didn't know I was supposed to check for updates daily.

3) Exploring the phone I also found its accessible when you hold the power button.

- I'm still trying to figure out why Auto Rotation trumped Airplane Mode

- And what does Mobile Data do other than stop emails and text messages?

4) Guess I've never had a major update before, but will note this from now on.

5) Not sure what my 5 was as I'm going off your reply, but it must have been me ranting.

And unless I'm missing something I really like my Fascinate. I held off for years buying a smartphone thinking I wanted an iPhone, but travel for a living (ie Airplane Mode) and was told by everyone AT&Ts coverage wouldn't do. I almost bought the Incredible then the Pro came out, but luckily it felt too big even for my hands and then I found the Fascinate. I've loved it ever since. What's better about the others except for the fact that they get updates faster?

Any way, I'm off the ledge for now. Thanks!

Ah, but I only don't like what the carriers do with their Samsungs, I still prefer the Verizon network.  The Nexus S is available on T-Mobile and Sprint only.  I do hope Verizon gets some developer phones, then you are only waiting on Google no matter the hardware vendor.

Samsung makes fantastic hardware, it's the software that makes me gag. Hence why the Nexus S is acceptable despite being a "Samsung" phone: they're only the hardware supplier.
