The email program re-downloads old deleted emails. I have email set for do not delete from server so I can get it on my desktop. Emails are deleted from the server after 15 days. A compliant email program should not re-download messages it has already retrieved.
I have seen this reported elsewhere but have not seen any confirmation that it is a bug.

I have FIXED IT.
Try this and see if this helps to all that are having this issue.
1. Delete your email account on your phone.
2. Add your email as a IMAP Account.
This will fix it. And if it don't I'm sorry you will have to contact your web server or email provider.

I can see how getting the same emails after you've deleted them can become pretty annoying, Blorff. We'll find out what's causing it. What email account (Gmail, Yahoo, Comcast, etc) are you having trouble with? Are the deleted emails being deleted on your computer? Are they coming back to your phone even after they're removed from the server?
Thank you

I really don't understand your questions but I'll try to answer them.
Emails ARE NOT deleted from the server by my phone's email client because that's the way I want it. My computer is not relevant, however they are not deleted from my server by my computer either. The server is set to delete emails after 15 days.
My email is a private company hosted at GoDaddy.
When I delete emails on my computer they don't get re-downloaded to the computer. That's the way this is supposed to work. The phone is supposed to work the same way but it does not. It used to, on the HTC Droid Incredible. However there is a bug in the mail client on the Samsung Note 3. It does not seem to be consistent. However on multiple occasions I have picked up he phone and found that it had pulled over 400 emails because of this bug. And then I have to delete them again.
No, emails do not come back to the phone if deleted from the server.

I can duplicate this problem by scrolling down to the bottom of my emails and if I attempt to scroll further, it goes to the server and pulls everything. My phone now has over 600 old emails on it, all but 50 of which have been previously viewed and deleted from the phone. I would appreciate if someone else can confirm this behaves the same way on their phone.

Hey Blorff,
Thanks for the additional information. That is odd that it worked on the Incredible and not the Note 3. I've have reviewed the forums and this is not a known issue at this time. Please try removing the e-mail account http://vz.to/1ctVZZu, and then re-addng it,http://vz.to/1cLCafP. Test the e-mails and let us know if the issues persist.

No, since you have not confirmed whether or not you are able to reproduce the problem using the same conditions, and whether deleting and re-adding the account fixes the problem I'm not going to do that. I have 5 different email accounts on the phone and it behaves this way with all of them.

My new Note 3 behaves in the same way. I grow tired of getting email notices for my Comcast mail that have been long ago discarded. Yes they are still on the server but that's where I want them, not on my Note 3. I don't have the same issue with Gmail or Hotmail. I did not have this problem with my old Moto Bionic either. Verizon, please send a way to correct this bad behavior. It's not just Blorff's phone.

Pop mail it seems like isn't working correctly. Is there an option in the app to mark as read?

Both read and non read emails reappear but when they reappear they are all marked as unread. My biggest concern was that this wasn't an issue with the old phone, whether it was marked read or non read.

Is there a setting to display x number of days?
Is there a setting to delete from server?
Pop mail doesn't delete from server or sync mail. So if something is still in the inbox depending on above settings it may display them because they are still on server when push happens.
It's one way. IMAP syncs mail. Personally I like IMAP over POP even if it eats more battery "in theory", but honestly it's negligible.

Unless there's a setting to control what date to download emails, as long as the email is on the server, your phone will keep getting it....my emails do not show up on my phone once they are downloaded to my email client, they are deleted at that point on the server....and I can't stand using a webmail function....barely tolerate Gmail. You'd have to take your phone off of sync and explore more email clients for android, perhaps they have advanced functions that might be able to help you....I get way too many emails to leave on the server....it would make more sense to back up your emails on your computer you want to keep and remove them from your server......

cynindesign, Leaving emails on the server or setting the server to delete them after a given number of days is a perfectly valid setting. Email clients are supposed to comply with the POP3 standard which is to keep track of which emails have been retrieved and not retrieve them again. It's not done based a date, it's based on a code (Message-ID I believe) in the header of the email. Compliance with this standard is not an "advanced function".

I gave up – I just turned off the syncing and am picking up emails from the web rather than downloading them.

Sounds like you may want to see if your provider provides IMAP email with my other phones Syncing weather I Read something or not never worked. POP Doesn't Sync Back weather you read something and if you tell it to pull messages again by scrolling to the bottom it has no idea you read anything previously because POP is a one way sync. See if you can find your IMAP settings and configure your email client with them to see if that helps.

I had this problem using the stock email on the GS3 when I got it 18 months ago.
I resolved it by switching to my providers email (Yahoo) and setting up on both ends.
The problem has resurfaced, with a new cell carrier on my Note 3.
Unless I delete from inbox AND trash, the emails come back as new, unread.
I will post solution when I sort it out (which I darn well will do!)

Hello & happy Tuesday MommaHinck,
Emails is still one of the most popular ways to communicate, especially while on the go. We are excited to get your device settings setup the way you prefer it. Let's start with are you using the default e-mail app or did you download a 3rd party app from the Google Play Store? Also, is this a work e-mail address? As you share these critical details then we can customize a solution for you.
Thank you...

I'm going to jump in here as well. I have the Note 3 with the stock email program with 4 active accounts. I am having the same issues with deleted emails re-appearing all day and night long. I delete them, they come back. I now have 1464 emails and copies of emails in my combined trash folder. This is making me nuts. I have read other forums and this seems to be a pretty common problem. Heres what I have tried so far:
1. Deleted and re-installed the email accounts.
2. Set the number of emails to sync to all (nightmare. had to re-delete 200 + emails)
3. Delete from server was suggested, however this is not what I want to do.
4. Cleared email cache.
5. Stopped myself several times from throwing the phone into a wall.
None of this has helped (Except #5) I didn't have this problem with older droid phones or my iPhone that I traded in and I am very tired of this on my phone. Please help with this or suggest another email program that will stop this from happening.
These also don't show up on the home screen as new emails, but when you go into the email program, it's loaded down with previously deleted emails that re-appeared.

I am very frustrated as well. I have a few weeks to return the device and am seriously considering doing just that.

We want you to love your Note 3 stanmpd! I'm sorry to hear of the difficulties you are experiencing with your e-mails. Does this happen with all of your e-mail clients? Are the 4 active accounts all from different clients? Do any of them successfully delete? Is it just the trash folder that won't empty? How are all the other amazing functions working on this device? I wouldn't want you to be prevented from enjoying all it has to offer based on one specific function.
