The Nougat S7 update has messed up my calendar notifications. Before the upgrade, a calendar notification would remain in my notifications bar until I dismissed it. Now with the update, the notifications are disappearing at the end of the duration even if I don't dismiss them! What's the fix? Sometimes I can't acknowledge a reminder event and if it disappears it's pointless to set calendar reminders.

I should also mention, when I called verizon they told me no one else has reported this issue which I find hard to believe. My wife's S7 has the same issue as well.

Below is the response from Samsung which still did nothing to fix the issue (shocking I know, even though they said they were positive it would fix the issue). Someone needs to fix the Nougat code. Calendar reminders are essentially useless right now if they are going to disappear before I can even get a chance to acknowledge them.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us at Samsung Technical Support.
It must be disappointing for you as the Calendar notifications are being dismissed automatically from the notification panel after the end time post update.
Thank you for bringing to our notice that SM-G930V model number is not available in the email drop down.
Please perform the below steps and check if the issue gets resolved.
1. Press and hold the power button and the volume down button simultaneously for approximately 7 seconds till the phone reboots. This will refresh the internal circuit of the phone.
2. Try resetting the Calendar app from Application Manager. These steps will not erase any data off the phone.
a. Tap on Settings.
b. Tap on Apps.
c. Tap on 3 vertical dots/More > Show system apps.
d. Tap on Calendar > Storage.
e. Tap on clear cache and clear data.
4. It may be necessary to boot your phone in Safe Mode to check whether or not added applications are causing problems with the phone. Safe Mode will load only basic system software. Please follow the below instructions to boot the phone into Safe Mode.
a. Power the phone OFF.
b. Press and hold the Power key.
c. When the phone vibrates; release the Power key and immediately hold down the Volume Down key
d. Keep pressing the Volume down key until the phone boots up completely.
e. If successful, Safe Mode will appear on the phone screen in the bottom left corner.
With Safe mode enabled, test the phone functionality. If the previous issue fails to occur, the cause has been isolated to a third-party app and all recently installed/updated apps should be uninstalled.
Uninstall app
a. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
b. Tap Settings.
c. Tap Applications.
d. Tap Application manager.
e. Tap the desired application.
f. Tap Uninstall.
g. Tap Uninstall again to confirm.
To turn OFF Safe Mode, restart the phone. If necessary, turn OFF and turn ON.
5. If the issue isn’t fixed, perform a Factory Reset on your phone. Factory reset steps will completely reset the phone, deleting ALL settings and all data on the phone (including phonebook entries, pictures, games, and messages). Please back up the phone data by following the below steps.
Please install the Smart switch application on your PC and connect your phone using USB cable to transfer the data.
Direct Download for PC:
http://www.samsung.com/us/smart-switch/SmartSwitchPC.exe
For Mac: http://www.samsung.com/us/smart-switch/SmartSwitch4Mac.dmg
Steps to backup data to the PC:
1. Connect your Samsung phone to your computer using a USB cable.
2. On the Smart Switch screen, click MORE.
3. Click Preferences, and then select the Backup items tab.
4. Select the content types you would like to back up, and then click OK.
5. Click Backup on the main Smart Switch screen. It may take several minutes for the backup to be completed.
6. A screen appears, informing you that the backup is complete. Click Confirm.
Once the data is backed up, please perform a Factory Reset by referring to the below link.

This Samsung response is so much more helpful than any of the VZW customer service people who respond here, or on the phone, offer. All the VZW people do is offer their canned comments about how disappointed they are that we are having problems with our phones. You have to love the phone CS reps saying this is the first they have heard of this or that problem. If they ever read the comments here, they would know about the kinds of issues Nougat is causing S7 users.

jrh4054 I would agree it's much more useful than vzw_customer_support usually ever has to offer (but in this instance it still didn't provide a solution). More times than not all they ever want you to do is reset your phone which never fixes anything. Not to mention the fact of people that have tons of customized settings you have to go through all of those steps again. One would think there would be a setup file you could save that would make that process much easier. When I get a new phone it takes me a couple hours to go through and get all my customized settings in place.

Thank you for providing all of those details, Illini4life. Adding reminders through the calendar is a great way to stay on top of your schedule, so I can see where a missed alert would make things confusing.
Thank you for taking the steps provided by Samsung. I'm sorry they didn't fix the issue as expected.
I want to make sure I'm fully understanding the issue so we can best lift up your concerns. You're referring to the reminders, such as On Time, 10 minutes before, etc? When exactly are these reminder notifications disappearing?

When the alert happens 10 min prior it pops in as hidden content. Doesn't
say what the appt is. Says slide for more info. Thats when it disappears.
You have to open up calendar to see what appt is.

Sounds more like you need to change your notification permissions to not hide content from the calendar application.

To elaborate, I'm not referring to reminders. I am referring to calendar notifications. The "reminders" are based upon the google platform and I am not having issues with these, they are working just as they should. The "calendar notifications" are another story. Since I have my outlook account synced to my phone, all of my calendar events pull in. When one of those calendar notification events "start", I get the notification like I should. The problem arises when the calendar event duration reaches the "end" (i.e.if it's a 30 minute event that starts at 10am and ends at 1030am), the notification completely disappears. This never happened before the Nougat update and has never happened on any previous android phones I have had when syncing this outlook account.

xoxoyazyxoxo I'm not sure what you are really getting at? Perhaps you are having a different issue than me. I do want my notifications to come through (i.e. my calendar notifications are on and I do not want them set as off). My issue is that ever since the nougat update, my battery is draining like crazy because the screen comes on over and over and over throughout the "duration" of the event even if my phone is in my pocket and the sensor is covered up (i.e. if i don't have time to acknowledge the event immediately). And yes, I do have the setting turned on to disable the screen from coming on when the sensor is covered up but these calendar notifications just ignore this feature (similar to my screen not staying off anymore when on speakerphone or when I have the earphones plugged in). I'm a mechanical engineer and very detail oriented. I've gone through all the settings forwards and backwards time and time again. If there was something I was doing wrong I would have figured it out by now. I have owned android phones for years and never had an issue like this happen that I couldn't find a work around.

There are two different issues being confused here. The issue of notifications keeping your screen LIT is related to samsung pay. I uninstalled it or deleted my cards ...not sure which fixed....and that issue stopped. There are many tweaks tried by people that just had to have samsung pay work but I just got rid of it.
The issue of calendar notifications disappearing after an hour after the event even without the user acknowledging it is a different issue and introduced with nougat on S7s and S8s for sure,. Further, just making sure calendar is turned on under notifications is not a fix.... This issue needs to be resolved.

BJBBJB where can some of the tweaks for samsung pay be found? i do use samsung pay and it is convenient so I'd hate to just default and remove it but who knows, maybe I'll end up having to do that.

BJBBJB, we are glad to hear that you have found a solution for the Samsung Pay situation. Having your phone operating smoothly is certainly key. As we would like to lift this up to the Samsung moderators we will need some additional information. Are you using the Calendar app that came preinstalled or one that you installed? Which version of the calendar app do you have? (To find this please go to the Apps, Settings, Applications, Application Manager and tap the Calendar app). What software version does your under the Apps, Settings, About Phone and under the Version?

vzw_customer_support, please note that your response above still does not mean the issue of this thread has been resolved. I too made changes to the samsung pay so my screen stopped coming on.
The root issue here as part of this thread is the simple fact that calendar event notifications from the default calendar app on the S7 are going away on their own after the duration has ended. In post number 17 above I provided links to this exact same situation. There was obviously a change in the software and we are no longer able to control when we dismiss our own event notifications. This is quite frustrating for people who have a busy schedule and put everything in outlook and sync to our phones to be reminded of important meetings, events, etc. This change has essentially made this calendar app useless.

To be clear, the Samsung pay issue is not the point of this thread. I was just helping someone out with an unrelated question.
The issue is notifications disappearing after one hour after the appointment time on my S7 Edge with the stock calendar once it was upgraded to nougat.
Nougat version 7.0
Calendar app version 4.0.06-356
Look forward to the Samsung moderators reponse.

There are no Samsung moderators on this site. Where are you expecting a response from them?
